Found this fella at ~3800 m altitude in a high #Tajikistan gully. Wolves & snow leopards haven't left much, but I wonder about the rumen-shaped phytobezoar of prickly cushion plant - was that the cause of his demise? #vetstudent @FVASunimelb @wildlifecornell
Second #Tajikistan#Pamirs field trip all done, including overnight hikes to sample in high summer pastures. Great @wildlifecornell, @FVASunimelb @MackinnonProj & Dushanbe Vet Institute collaboration - stay tuned for more stories
Here's a fantastic short animation explaining the life cycle, diagnosis and treatment of #liverfluke made by @MoredunComms and kindly lent to us to use alongside our #flukesentinel project. https://t.co/oCWZnphLzl #teamsheep
Back at my favourite #Tajikistan bus stop with a portable freezer, liquid nitrogen & a watermelon waiting for @MgilbertMartin to do our summer livestock assessments. Warmer than last time! @FVASunimelb @Cornell

@ReFashion2Wear @FVASunimelb @Cornell@MgilbertMartin PETA‘s against all animal use - not a view I support at all. Shearers are highly trained, experienced professionals & shearing shouldn’t be painful when it’s done properly. If retailers don’t like animal fibres they must use plant-sourced or synthetic & they aren’t zero-impact
@ReFashion2Wear @FVASunimelb @Cornell@MgilbertMartin They're 'local' (i.e., mixed) breeds but some look like Cashmere-type. n.b. Angora goats produce mohair, and Angora rabbits produce angora. I haven't heard about ethical concerns: are they 'we shouldn't use animals' or is there something about the fibre harvesting in particular?
@DiMaybs @MackinnonProj @FVASunimelb Marco Polo sheep, ibex, markhor, wolf, snow leopard. We're scoping ways to manage livestock numbers more sustainably to ↓ grazing competition with wildlife & support farming communities. Fees from game hunting licences provide signif income & have coincided w ↑ wildlife numbers
Cold, cold morning in Alichur but the livestock still have to go out grazing. We have GPS collars on a handful of animals to see where they go & how they might overlap with wildlife @MackinnonProj @FVASunimelb
