Ethiopia: At least 47 Ethiopian Christians were killed, and another 18 hospitalized, in coordinated attacks targeting them in the Oromia region.
Surviving witnesses claimed regional authorities collaborated with Islamist militias to carry out the massacre.
Church leaders have repeatedly warned local authorities about armed groups entering the area, but received no serious response.
This is not an isolated incident, but rather part of a pattern of targeted attacks against Ethiopian Christians, who militants conflate with Amhara ethnicity.
This fusion of religious and ethnic violence against innocent Christians and their churches must not be tolerated.
We condemn these evil acts and call for the protection of Ethiopia’s Christians.
Dear Ambassador Massinga,
It is deeply difficult to understand how the Abiy genocidal government’s reported military operations against civilian populations—including the alleged use of drones and heavy weaponry resulting in the destruction of civilian infrastructure, public institutions, schools, monasteries, churches, and health facilities—could continue without, a clear and public condemnation from your office?
Against this background, we are equally concerned by your apparent opposition to the position recently advanced by seven opposition forces. These groups have stated that their objective is to protect their respective people from the genocidal dictator Abiy Ahmed Ali and to establish an inclusive and peaceful transitional political order following the Abiy Ahmed fascistic regime.
We believe that such proposals deserve serious consideration and constructive engagement rather than outright rejection.
This raises an important question: what considerations have led to such a position toward the current political and humanitarian circumstances in Ethiopia? If credible reports of extensive drone operations and attacks against civilian populations are brought to the attention of the international community—including reports alleging as many as 26 drone strikes in a single day—how can such developments be met with continued silence or insufficient public scrutiny?
As a diplomat representing the United States, your responsibilities carry considerable significance for both the American and Ethiopian peoples. We respectfully ask whether the approach being taken is consistent with the principles of protecting civilian life, promoting human rights, supporting accountability, and encouraging a peaceful and inclusive political transition.
We do not raise these questions lightly. We believe that diplomatic engagement should serve the interests of peace, justice, human dignity, and the protection of civilians, regardless of political affiliation. Silence in the face of credible allegations of serious abuses risks undermining public confidence in those principles.
We therefore respectfully urge you to give serious and impartial consideration to the concerns being raised by affected Ethiopian communities and to support meaningful international attention to allegations of attacks against civilians and other serious human-rights violations.
The Ethiopian people deserve peace, security, justice, and a political process in which all communities can participate meaningfully. We hope that the United States and its diplomatic representatives will use their influence to advance these objectives and to encourage a peaceful, inclusive, and accountable resolution to Ethiopia’s crisis.
Ethiopia: It's reported that this man was detained in Addis Ababa after peacefully staging a solo protest calling for PM Abiy to step down and be held accountable, during a period when demonstrations were banned by the regime
Ethiopia: It’s reported that three civilian Amhara men—Temesgen Getachew, Yitagesu Asegde, and Gizaw Girma—were forced off a public bus in Abeshge Woreda, Gurage Zone, and brutally killed by regime forces after being accused of being “Fano members''
Ethiopia: The 101-year-old Telata Chef St. Garbriel Church has been burned to the ground by ethnic militants in Oromo.
Dozens of Christians were also killed.
Hundreds of Christian homes were destroyed, along with livestock, in the large-scale attack that saw roughly 3,000 armed extremists target the Orthodox Christian community.
The Christians of Ethiopia’s Oromo region need immediate help and prayers.
Ethiopia: Dozens of Christians were slaughtered in recent days by ethnic militants in the Oromo region.
The Ethiopian Orthodox Christian community was intentionally targeted.
This evil must be stopped and those responsible brought to justice.
Pray for the afflicted.
Ethiopia: How is it possible that evil men could methodically torch a church in broad daylight?
That is exactly what happened in the Oromo region.
Crowds cheered. Some prepped the blaze. Others relayed fuel.
This is a public terror campaign targeting Ethiopia’s Christians.
