Loved this by @merryn_baker and very applicable to how I help my team prepare for media interviews. Being able to communicate complex medical/academic research into simple terms for a general public audience is a great skill!

Great presentation from @merryn_baker on tailoring your #research pitch:
🌟Test on others – are there phrases audience find confusing? What do they find interesting? What do they want to find out more about?
🌟 Communicate your passion!
🌟Start with your "hook"

Jess Wade has has written 2,000+ profiles of female scientists and scientists of colour for Wikipedia. She has now started spending her Sunday afternoons nominating top female scientists and scientists of colour for major prizes and fellowships. Brava!!

One more sleep before the @UNSW#3MT Competition! Can't wait to hear about our #PhD finalists world-changing #research. There are still some tickets left here: https://t.co/453yEYWmBD @Jonatha16752881
Last year, I had the honour of being a judge at the UNSW 3 Minute Thesis Competition, a remarkable event that showcases the incredible research journeys of budding scientists. Alongside the trailblazing Zina Kaye (@ZinaK), Professor Attila Brungs (@UNSW’s Vice-Chancellor and President) and Professor Jonathan Morris @Jonatha16752881 (UNSW’s Pro Vice-Chancellor Research Training & Entrepreneurship and Dean of Graduate Research), I had the privilege of witnessing the future of science unfold before our eyes.
It was a tough decision, I must admit, as each presentation was a testament to the dedication and passion these young researchers pour into their work. The joy of listening to their succinct and engaging summaries of intricate research topics was simply invigorating.
One presentation that left an indelible mark was by Scientia PhD candidate Merryn Baker @merryn_baker. Her work on diagnosing lung diseases through breath analysis was not only innovative but also presented with a flair that captured the attention of the entire judging panel.
As the new season of the UNSW 3 Minutes Thesis competition kicks off (check out the event here: [https://t.co/EpBZncMmev]), I find myself reminiscing about the inspiring moments from last year. To all the candidates participating this year, I'm sending my best wishes all the way from Japan. Embrace this opportunity to share your passions, your dreams, and your remarkable contributions to the world of #science.
May your dedication shine through. Keep pushing the boundaries of knowledge.

@anzsms@PukalaLab@BlanksbyStephen representing at the #AOMSC meeting on Jeju Island, Korea. We’re looking forward to seeing all the delegates next August in Melbourne for @imsc2024
Lovely closing talk by @merryn_baker on the protocol optimisation of breath analysis by mass spec. So cool to see all the ways mass spec can be applied to answer numerous scientific questions! @anzsms
[PSA📢] RnD Topics this year will be held on the 3rd-6th December 2023 at UNSW Sydney. Get excited, note down the dates and keep an eye on this page for more exciting updates🥳@RACInational#ozchem#TeamMassSpec
What if detecting lung diseases could be as easy as breathing?
In this episode Griff and @InnaOsmol chat to @merryn_baker from @UNSWScience about how it can become a reality.
