We condemn the attack in Shire which killed and injured humanitarian workers and civilians. International humanitarian law must be respected and unimpeded humanitarian access must be allowed.
Unless peace efforts are seriously pursued, civilians will continue to be killed, injured and displaced in northern Ethiopia. Meanwhile humanitarian workers must be able to do their work safely as they keep trying to reach Ethiopians and refugees in need of life saving support.
On this 21st anniversary of the assault on freedom of expression in Eritrea, we are proud to announce this year's winner of PEN Eritrea's annual Freedom of Expression Award
