You’ve pointed out a really important point. I think that if the article is written in a more exploratory and open-ended way, it will be more engaging for the author and more enjoyable for the reader as well.
It's much harder to write an essay that has to cover a topic completely. In a normal essay you just do a core sample through some interesting topic and talk about what you notice en route. But if an essay has to be complete, you sweat over what you might miss.
