@PeterGr329@wb9rms6gyz@CameronCorduroy Not everybody who ate lettuce at a Taco Bell in the state, or even everyone who ate lettuce from the contaminated batch, is going to get sick.
@Sorrybadgrammar@ArmandDoma We need regulations for things that consumers will find it difficult to judge on their own. e.g. structural soundness, fire safety, etc.
Anyone can walk into a room and notice that the ceiling is uncomfortably low for them, no regulation required.
@probebalboa@fentanylbrownie You're missing the part where employers broke the loyalty norm first, routinely letting go of long tenured employees to maximize profit.
I'm not sure we can go back, or if we even want to, but it's weird to portray this as the workers' fault.
@NotoriousAirbnb@JAldrichPL A 1bed apartment is often better for a family than a hotel room. Having a separate room for nap time is extremely valuable when you have young kids.
@HJ4Indie@Castantine@ArmandDoma The federal budget is $7 trillion. I agree we should cut their aid, but it's not really that much money relative to everything else congress is responsible for.
@jjeebhoy@uncledoomer I'm sure that single tweet comprehensively described the entire German educational system and didn't exclude any other educational/career trajectories for humor or brevity reasons.
@sam_d_1995@TheStalwart I think you're completely, unarguably, correct.
But they're probably correct that it's bad messaging to elevate this particular conversation.
@Trillian42069 I can imagine a world where 52% of the public support sweeping changes to tackle the climate crisis, but the rules of the political system stubbornly entrench the status quo in defiance of public will.
That's not the situation we're in. Only 2% of people care that much, not 52%.
@Trillian42069 It's not the rules. To a first approximation, the problem is that we live in a democracy and most voters care very little about addressing climate change.
@xwanyex I used to think like this, but over the years I've started to understand just how much most people value stability. They prefer a system where it's harder to get hired if it means they're less likely to get fired once they have a job.
@xwanyex@Noahpinion It's an interesting argument if you're an idiot, maybe. The only political system where the power is held by the people who are capable of defeating everyone else with force is a military dictatorship. That doesn't make military dictatorships natural or preferable.
@hankgreen We should treat every investment like it's in a traditional retirement account. If you pull money out to spend it, you should absolutely pay the full income tax rate on the withdrawals. As long as you're leaving the money invested in something though, you shouldn't owe taxes yet.
