What a person believes about Allah ﷻ profoundly shapes the way he lives. Theology is never merely theoretical. Our understanding of Allah's Names, Attributes, knowledge, mercy, justice, and power directly affects our choices and behavior. If a person truly believes that Allah ﷻ sees him, that awareness creates caution and restraint. If he knows that Allah ﷻ is merciful and accepts sincere repentance, it creates hope and encourages him to return after sin. If he knows that Allah ﷻ is perfectly just, he understands that wrongdoing will never ultimately escape accountability.

Corrupt assumptions about Allah ﷻ, however, produce corrupt behavior. A person who assumes that Allah ﷻ does not see may sin freely. A person who assumes that Allah ﷻ will forgive him regardless of whether he repents may become careless and complacent. A person who assumes that Allah ﷻ will never forgive him may fall into despair and abandon repentance altogether. A person who imagines that Allah ﷻ does not care about his suffering may lose trust in divine wisdom. In every case, a false understanding of Allah ﷻ leads the heart away from the straight path.

Aku bertanya, “Apa kedua perkara itu?”

Asy’ab menjawab, “Yang satu aku lupa, sedangkan yang satunya lagi Ikrimah yang lupa.”
