The fact that the Bay Area--a place Lucas has called home and created thousands of jobs in for over 50 years now--put so many conditions on him building them a new museum that he finally threw up his hands and left really doesn't reflect well on the region.
@johnamonaco@shagbark_hick Same feeling growing up in upstate ny.
And I thought every christian was catholic and genuinely didn’t learn there were other denominations of Christianity until I moved to the South. And that’s where I learned that some people had real problems with Catholics!
Think of how expensive it is to live in California.
Now imagine how bad it would be if they cut taxes, and people had even more money to spend on buying homes.
tbh i don’t think American elites and leaders today actually understand what made America successful in the first place
they’ll say the free market and entrepreneurship, which are important
but those don’t exist ex nihilo
they emerge from a well governed society
I'm sorry, if you had pitched "Donald Trump will get Milli Vanilli to play in honor of America's 250th birthday" as a joke on Weekend Update they would have laughed you out of the room.
Dennis Rodman would go party in Vegas, take enough cocaine to kill a bear, drink copious amounts of alcohol and them fly back to an nba finals game and lock up Karl Malone.
This guy drinks a glass of wine and can't podcast for 3 days
I don’t understand this mindset. I’m third generation Bay Area.
Every day, I wake up and think the Bay Area is so great.
How can we build more houses here? How can families have more kids? How can more people move here from all over America and the world to build more cool, world-changing shit?
@mattyglesias There were buyers/buying groups ready to take the A’s off John Fisher’s hands but the MLB and Giants simply wanted the A’s somewhere else
Tech elite are not really invested in Oakland. They're all in SF and on the peninsula. Joe Lacob is that guy for the Warriors (and now Valkyries).
Oakland has white collar workers for tech companies and a few CEOs but it's just not like that.
It's amusing that the GenZ frontier lab/startup talent are complaining about housing but the most important thing that could happen for immediately relieving housing pressure in SF is getting signatures for the November ballot initiative to not let BART fail.
It's actually a very bad sign that this entire thing is now being framed as a controversy about whether money should go to J6ers who assaulted police. The entire fund is bad and corrupt! Carving out violent J6ers does not make the $1.8 billion slush fund okay!
