Folks involved remember that is was a very hard push as well as an amazing technical feat: libauto was entrenched. Impossible to say whether it ever would have happened in a parallel world

@cocoaphony Setting `MPNowPlayingPlaybackState.playbackState` isn't necessary on iOS because Control Center/etc. derive playback state automatically from AVAudioSession and OS/audio internals.

If you're Dropbox you're fine, because you already had years to use hacks then grow big enough to pressure for API. But no one else can get the extension points they need.

@cocoaphony @dlpasco IIRC Swift was invented then developed for multiple years in near-private by Lattner, with the original mission of being a general purpose language/"world domination". So hopefully it does meet/exceed Apple's internal needs, but it never sounded like that's where it came from.
