@Geiger_Capital Why would you boast about something that is untrue? It's like cheating at, say, golf and then crowing about being the better player, which you haven't proved!).
@BruvverEccles@Guru_Cultural This is a nonsense idea propagated by sites like Wikipedia (US-owned) possibly because it increases the credibility they receive from their immigrant population.
@BruvverEccles@Guru_Cultural He was still German. I've lived in Slovakia for 22 years and could easily become a Slovak citizen but it wouldn't make me Slovak. My relatives and friends would laugh at the idea - especially considering the level of my Slovak.
@David__Osland What don't you get? They paid what they were asked to pay. If you think they should have paid more, blame the government, not the company.
@zatzi Are you sure it's not because of technological advances made over those 21 years? How did you distinguish between the benefits of privatisation (if any) and those of technological progress?
@Martina I was reading the latest book by David Sedaris, The Land and Its People, last week, a day or two before this article was published, and in it he says exactly the same thing. Recommended reading; you'll love it. As also is everything else he has ever written.
@_jaylawrence@erikvanvelzen OK. If you're so keen on absolute equality, then you must ban private education and private healthcare and anything else that gives the not-poor an advantage (housing, for ex.), otherwise you're saying "I want a 100m. race where I start 80m ahead of you."
@JacobAShell With an attitude like yours, your whole life is going to be boring. Me, waking up simply signals the beginning of another day of wonderment. It's arrant nonsense to think that the interest lies in the thing observed. I told my child, "Never tell me you're bored!"
@LeeGregoryPeck@fiona_lali But your way means that a society where someone has 100 x Musk's wealth and a million have absolutely fuck all and are starving is ok if the average "shows" most people can afford minimum food/accomodation/health care.
