THE MAN WHO SHOT LIBERTY VALANCE (1962). There are a handful of Westerns that are basically primal Shakespeare, and this is perhaps first among them. All of America is here in its primordial mythic form. My love of John Wayne in this picture goes beyond words. Epic poetry.
Every Super Bowl ad is just “HEY REMEMBER THIS SHIT? HUH? YOU REMEMBER THE POP CULTURE YOU CONSUMED THAT ONE TIME IN YOUR LIFE WHEN NOT ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING FUCKING SUCKED. REMEMBER THAT?? brought to you by a company causing your electric bill to increase 287%”
Here's where we are:
Republicans have shut down the government.
Why?
They won't negotiate. They want to pass a bill that will allow the Trump administration to throw 15 million Americans off their health care & double premiums for 20 million Americans.
We won't let them.
@EmmaTolkin If you’re okay with the extra couple of steps of cooking with charcoal, the standard Weber Kettle grill is easily the best bang for your buck.
the problem is that the real american culture is the one you're looking at. multicultural, rootless, amorphous, and dumb. there's no back to go back to other than the one were currently screaming towards again (stagflation, hollowing out of the middle class, howling anger)
the rending of garments over cracker barrel just reveals that there isnt enough authentic american culture for blood and soil guys to claim. cracker barrel was founded in 1969 as a phony nostalgia play that was popular back then. it's like crying over the old spaghetti factory
They made a film that accurately depicts modern life. Shot on people using laptops and smartphones. It got the lowest rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
This is why cinema must remain in a world without cell phones and computers. It must completely ignore the current world and show us a dream.
