@cawadman @k_vavMUN I love a great live show too! It is a very powerful experience listening to real lyrics/music without auto-tune. I agree that artists sounds very different, awful technology!
#W23POPMUS Young people prefer different technologies and would rather listen to music from Spotify. On the other hand, live concerts like Taylor Swift are selling out to younger people. Auto-tune can make awful singers sound great and really bad singers sound like computers.
@bgmcgrath10 I agree that throughout history "Cultural theft" borrowing the great African music over and over again. The white middle class exploited and used their Music.
@liamcroucher4 I agree that "schlock rock" was a form of cultural theft borrowing great artistic works by artist like "Little Richard" who totally rocked the song "Tutti Frutti". It is a white privilege.
#W23POPMUS Music is valued when society is educated and understands the history and its connection to the African-American music. Little Richard’s songs were banned from white radio, white people were attending his concerts and enjoying the rocking frenetic performance style.
@bradleyhodder_ I agree, that Ray Charles used his voice in a way to portray a style and sound that reflected his life experiences. His brassy, breaking voice signified a raw, brash, joyful and tearful all in one song.
Ray Charles used a breaking voice to illustrate expressive passionate paradoxes; like a blues pop star. The breaks in his singing made him sound like a voice with years of experience. Ray Charles is someone who had seen all the hopes and mistakes of people.

@cwleamon I agree Spotify is good for introducing individuals to sounds they may not otherwise have heard locally, but so did good record stores. I like how Spotify allows people to check out an artist's work before committing to purchasing the album, and thereby supporting the artist.
I like headphones for active listening, but I'll take a solid album on a turntable over portable playlists & streaming services any day. Give me a tangible record or CD with the artwork, credits & drummer's name in there and I'll at least know the artist got fair pay. #S22POPMUS
@marilyn_brandy I agree, popular music appeals to a passive audience. Corporate entertainment make profits by influencing a generation, especially younger to listen and buy swag. Others reject the top 40 relying more on personal preference listening to artists whose work may never “chart”.
@cwleamon Yes, I agree that popular music appeals to a passive audience, a dumbed-down firm of music. However, sometimes work of genius enters the Top 40 , like Lady Gala. Generally speaking, there are artists of great talent and integrity who remain overlooked.
False needs created by pop music include the “need” to keep up with the newest/latest. Pop music is not intellectual art, generally speaking. Some people let the Top 40 dictate the sounds and styles they hear, which is like letting entertainment corporations lead them. #s22popmus
Popular music must must always be viewed from a broader musical landscape in which many different styles and audiences interact in different ways . I agree that in everyday life people do not think or listen carefully and creditably to the music that they hear. # #s22popmus
