There's always something special about bug hunting at night.
But then, when you add the inimitable Collie Ennis, it quickly becomes something truly magical.
microWild is so full of invertebrate life; sometimes, I can hardly believe my luck!

This wildlife pond in the wonderful @microwildhq was starting to get smothered by grass, risking it becoming completely overgrown and potentially risking the local population of native smooth newts that breed there.
We popped down today to give it a bit of a haircut. ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
A regular question I get asked is, "What should I be doing in my garden to support bees, wasps, insects?"
Instead of making things up, I've simply asked someone more knowledgeable than me to take on that task. Join us in April 2025 for a great day out.

@ballymore Group's Sustainability Designer Charlie Conlan visited the microWild site today to talk about invertebrates, conservation and biodiversity in general.
Save the date for the next EntoSoc seminar series!
We are delighted to announce the presentation of @Aoifejanecrowe on Monday 11th November, PhD student at University of Galway!
She will present her work on #woodland_beetles in Ireland
There are lots of juvenile Rilaena triangularis out and about in microWild at the moment. A lovely species with very distinctive eyes.
It takes some time for them to grow into their eyes...
We shot this piece on a cold, VERY windy day sitting IN the meadow. I was shivering towards the end. I'm surprised we got any audio - but it worked out okay.
Jack is a lovely guy who is committed to learning all about Irish nature to guide and aid him in his rewilding efforts.
I had a great time making this piece about Native Irish Bees with Jack Morley of The Rewildlife Blog.
Jack breaks down the interview into easily digestible pieces, too. Have a look...

@microwildhq@RyanM_Sussex It was a great day and experience! Well worth going to! Delighted to have at last visited @microwildhq! @RyanM_Sussex enthusiasm for small (and large) little black dots was contagious! What a library of knowledge!!
Last Saturday, we had the pleasure of @RyanM_Sussex's company in @microwildhq as he taught us all about Craneflies.
It was a little windy, but we still found plenty of species on the estate, including a Phantom Cranefly.
An excellent course and a great day!
I turned over a plank of wood in the microWild meadow today, and what a thrill!!! Not one, but two separate pseudoscorpions. If you know pseudoscorpions, you know how rare it is to come across them.
Pseudoscorpions are our stunning and cute, non-venomous arachnid friends!
If, like me, you love Irish invertebrates - why not use the discount code TWENTY to get 20% off the cost of this Saturday's Introduction to Irish Craneflies workshop with Ryan Mitchell?
Limited tickets are available, so secure your spot here: https://t.co/GcbKG5bheh
I've had a hectic few months with life and other non-microWild invert endeavours, but I'll be back in full flow soon enough. In the meantime, here's a beautiful male Oligolophus tridens harvestman from microWild.
Sweep low herbage if you want to find these guys!

Have you noticed a lot more Craneflies out and about recently? So, why not take this chance to learn more about Craneflies and here in Ireland. In just 18 days, Ryan Mitchell will run an Introduction to Irish Craneflies workshop in Blessington, Wicklow.

Did you know? (Cranefly Edition)
Many Irish craneflies can be identified from their wing pattern alone, making them a great family of flies to start recording.
Sounds interesting? Join us in two weeks for our Cranefly Intro Workshop with @RyanM_Sussex
