French clinical data analyst and two-time guest on the Focal Points announced she cannot endure the pain anymore, by John Leake @johnsearsleake@McCulloughFund@StatChrisCotton https://t.co/6eJ6CP2R26
In 1971 America went bankrupt.
Nixon went on TV on a Sun night and lied about it.
Ray Dalio was 22, standing on the floor of the NYSE.
He thought the market would crash Monday morning.
It rose 25%.
That moment broke him.
The book he wrote 50 years later changed my life. 🧵
Oh! Lol. Suzanne Ashman Blair, Tony’s daughter in law, Euan’s wife, new head of £500m UK govt AI fund..AND I now realise she also led investment seed round on behalf of LocalGlobe into…drumroll….Tortoise Media!!😂😂😂
Like the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia was born from a fight between 2 newspapers. La Gazzetta dello Sport took an early lead by promoting Milan-San Remo and Il Lombardia, which were instantly popular. But in 1908 rumours spread that rival Corriere della Serra planned a Tour of Italy, like the Tour de France.
That threatened to diminish La Gazzetta, so its owner, Emilio Costamagna, and its editor Armando Cougnet scooped them with a Tour of Italy of their own. La Gazzetta announced in August 1908 the first ever Giro d’Italia would happen in 1909, starting in Milan on May 13th with a 397-kilometre stage to Bologna, and ending on May 30th with 206 kilometres from Turin to Milan. There were six stages in between: the shortest 228 kilometres, and longest 378.
The first Giro avoided the high mountains, but still included some stiff climbs to Roccaraso, Rionero-Sannitico and Macerone on stage 3, Naples to Chieti. The steep Passo Bracco featured on stage 6, Florence to Genoa, and the Colle di Nava was climbed on the road between Genoa and Turin.
As well as top Italian racers, others included the Frenchman Lucien Petit-Breton and Belgian, Cyriel Van Hauwaert. So, the first Giro d’Italia was an international race.
Rome was its southern extent, and the riders covered a total distance of 2448 kilometres over 18 days; with 127 starting, but only 49 crossing the final finish line. The winner was decided on points awarded according to the finish order of each stage.
That was the man in our picture, Luigi Ganna in 1909 (no, we don’t know if he’s related to Filippo, but if you do tell us), but Ganna wasn’t the fastest around Italy. That was third-place rider, Giovanni Rossignoli. If the first Giro had been decided on time then Rossignoli would have won by some margin.
That madness stopped in 1914, when the Giro was decided on time and Alfonso Calzilari won. Doing it on points was supposed to stop cheating, but in 1909 at least 3 riders were caught doing some of the route by train.
Anyway, enjoy the 2026 Giro and catch Chris Sidwells telling his weekly ‘Tales from the Giro’ on the Cycling Legends Podcast.

This is a moment in British journalism. A news analysis programme which forensically takes apart the tired and intellectually bankrupt narratives that shape MSM. I urge everybody to watch and share.

Morgan McSweeney told senior civil servants to “just f***ing approve” Peter Mandelson's security vetting.
Now, he has been summoned for questioning.
But did you know that last month, Labour Together raked in another £500,000?
These three individuals are STILL funding them:🧵
🚨Morgan McSweeney is gone, for now.
But an MP who served on Labour’s frontbench has passed me details of an unknown and unelected group who “rule with a rod of iron” and are fighting to retain control of the party.
These are the names of McSweeney’s “inner circle”: 🧵
Happy Birthday Dad. 108 today if you had made it this far. Glad you are resting in a more peaceful spot. We are opening up the archive today and eating your favourite cake to celebrate you. 🍰@stephenshouse 🌷
Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia, has made the planet itself the sole beneficiary and effective "shareholder" of his company.
In an extraordinary move that redefined corporate ownership, Chouinard transferred full control of the $3 billion outdoor apparel brand away from his family. He placed 100% of the company into a carefully designed structure consisting of a trust and a nonprofit organization, both dedicated to combating the climate crisis and protecting the natural world.
Under this new arrangement, the Chouinard family gave up any claim to personal profits. Instead, all earnings not reinvested in growing the business—roughly $100 million each year—now flow directly to environmental causes, funding the preservation of wild lands, conservation efforts, and initiatives to fight climate change.
In essence, Patagonia now exists to serve Earth as its only true shareholder, placing planetary survival above the accumulation of private wealth.
The model has already delivered significant results. As of 2025, the company had channeled an additional $180 million into nature-protection projects. The structure relies on two key entities: the Patagonia Purpose Trust, which safeguards the company’s original mission and values, and the Holdfast Collective, a nonprofit that directs the profits toward high-impact environmental work.
Rather than selling the business to the highest bidder or taking it public, Chouinard chose this radical path—creating what many see as a groundbreaking template for purpose-driven capitalism. Patagonia has shown that a for-profit company can become a powerful force for ecological restoration while remaining financially successful.

Wes Streeting has been the Labour MP for Ilford North since 2015 and is currently the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care.
Wes is very much the focal point in the government’s pay dispute with doctors in the NHS. He has described the British Medical Association (BMA) as a ‘“cartel-like union and no longer a professional voice for doctors.”’ He has also called striking doctors “delusional”.
The Institute for Government has described Wes’ approach to reforming the NHS as ‘“chaotic and incoherent”.’
Accusations have been made against Wes Streeting that he is deliberately targeting doctors and medical staff who voice their support for the Palestinian people. Organisations such as Healthcare Workers Against Censorship and Doctors in Unite have demanded an end to what critics perceive as a ‘“witch-hunt”.’
Wes has sometimes been a source of controversy because of his attritional, factional and confrontational style. He has been accused of bullying political opponents in the Commons.
The @ElectoralCommUK website shows that Wes has personally received £705,258.66 in donations. The bulk of these donations have come from one man - the private healthcare executive Peter Hearn. Peter Hearn has been funding Wes’ career for at least ten years - directly and through his companies - The OPD Group and MPM Connect Ltd.
The following donations and perks have been given to Wes:
£40,000 over 5 payments from Peter Hearn directly.
£218,000 from Peter Hearn and The OPD Group in 4 payments. The most recent payment - £55,000 in February 2026 - while the BMA dispute has been ongoing.
£96,000 over 3 payments from Peter Hearn and MPM Connect Ltd.
£18,500 over 5 payments from Sir Trevor Chinn.
£13,000 from Kevin Craig.

With his approx. £180,000 salary, expenses, donations, speaking engagement fees, radio appearance fees and various perks, Wes has enjoyed a very successful career as an MP.

David Lammy has been the Labour MP for Tottenham since 2000. He is currently the Deputy Prime Minister, Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor.
David has had a rewarding and successful career thus far. He has travelled all over the world in his roles as Shadow and actual Foreign Secretary. He is officially titled ‘Envoy Extraordinaire’ in his role at the University of Guyana 🇬🇾 and indeed, David’s career as an MP has been extraordinary on many levels.
David has said that Margaret Thatcher was a ‘“visionary leader for the UK”.’ Whether David’s predecessor in Tottenham, Bernie Grant, would have agreed with him is open to question.
David has described himself as a ‘“liberal, progressive Zionist”’ and is a member of the lobby organisation Labour Friends of Israel.
The @ElectoralCommUK and Register of Interests show that David has received £752,849.60 in donations and perks. These include:
£70,000 from Gary Lubner.
£67,674 in 2 payments from the Trevor Chinn, Martin Taylor, Gary Lubner funded/Morgan McSweeney/Josh Simons run consortium @LabourTogether

£20,000 from Lady Jeanne Marie Davies.
£7,500 from Richard Geer.
£15,000 from Richard Lewis.
£25,000 from one George Brown. (There is effectively no information on who this George Brown is or what he does as is the case with quite a few of David’s donors.)
£24,739 from Conservation International do Brasil. 🇧🇷
£15,000 from Jonathan Stone.
£10,000 from Stephen Fitzgerald.
£2,500 from Tony Langham.

David has a successful parallel career as a public speaker. He travels all over the world to speak at prestigious events: political and cultural meetings, literary festivals, Bilderberg conventions, war veteran commemorations and more. David is remunerated for these speaking engagements and has received approximately £78,896 to date.
Another rewarding parallel career for David has been his stints on various radio shows. The Register of Interests shows that David has received approximately £110,145 from @LBC, Global Radio, @ITG_Ltd and other media outlets. 🎙️
Approximately £7,000 in tickets and hospitality from @SpursOfficial for ⚽️ matches and other sporting events. 🥊

With his approximately £200,000+ salary, expenses, donations, rental income, perks, speaking engagements, radio and media appearances, visiting professorships, his continuing ties as an ‘Associate Tenant’ to Doughty Street Chambers and his shareholdings in the Pomeroon Trading Company, there can be no doubt that David has enjoyed a very successful 26 years as an MP.
And as an MP, David initially voted to retain the two-child benefit cap, voted to scrap the winter fuel payment, voted for the welfare changes that will impact people who are disabled and unwell, voted against an inquiry into grooming gangs and voted to scrap trials by jury.
