🚨Jürgen Klopp on Cody Gakpo breaking down in tears after scoring against Morocco in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32:
🗣️ “There are moments in football when the result becomes completely secondary. If Cody Gakpo has gone through such heartbreaking personal loss and still found the strength to step onto the pitch, then he deserves nothing but respect. That takes incredible courage.”
“When he scored and the emotions came out, you could see it wasn't just about football. Sometimes a goal becomes an expression of everything a person has been carrying inside. In moments like that, we are reminded that players are human beings before they are footballers.”
“My thoughts are with Cody and his family. No one should ever have to experience that kind of pain, but the way he carried himself tonight showed remarkable strength and resilience.”
“I hope people remember this moment not because of the scoreline, but because it reminded us of the power of love, family and the human spirit. Football can unite people, but compassion is always more important than the game itself.”
Yesterday, he buried his son.
Today, he carried a nation.
Cody Gakpo was released from the Netherlands camp to be with his family after the heartbreaking loss of his son. Yet he made the decision to return and play against Morocco.
He stepped onto the pitch through unimaginable pain. The moment he scored, the tears came. Every single player on the Dutch bench sprinted onto the pitch to embrace him, knowing exactly what that goal meant.
Some heroes celebrate goals.
Others simply find the strength to keep going.
One of the most emotional moments of this World Cup. ❤️🇳🇱🥹💔
Although their tournament came to an end, Cody Gakpo showed up for his team and country all while dealing with an unimaginable loss.
Some things are bigger than the game itself.
Salute to you, Cody Gakpo 🧡
Jurgen Klopp speaking to ESPN:
“I saw a social media post from Mane when on the screen was Egypt and he put a heart on it. So I took a screenshot and sent it to Salah in case he didn't see it! That's the memories we share.”
I am absolutely disgusted by The Daily Mail’s headline.
They didn’t “romp”. He plied her with alcohol and raped her, and she took her own life.
The headline is as disgusting as the sentencing.
My name is Ella, I'm 17 years old.
I do long jump. I play volleyball. I go to school in New Richmond, Wisconsin.
When my school allowed a biological male into the girls' restroom without telling parents —
I went to the school board.
With my name attached.
In my own town.
I got bullied for it. Harassed online. Even some of my own teachers came after me.
I'm still here.
Because here's what I know:
The net in women's volleyball is set nearly a foot lower for a reason.
A biological male can hit a ball across that net at force that could seriously injure a girl.
And in track — all it takes is three biological males entering the girls' category
and not a single girl in this state stands on a podium.
I didn't speak up because it was easy.
I spoke up because somebody had to.
The Supreme Court is about to answer the question every girl in America is asking.
We're ready.

Today, she became the first Mexican woman to referee a FIFA Men’s World Cup match. ❤️🏆👏🏼
Gerard Baron Sr, a retired postal worker from Preston, was born on this day in 1921.
He was 67 years old when he lost his life at Hillsborough in 1989.
RIP Gerard, 🙏❤️

This is so sad to see. I was running intervals round our local cricket pitch this morning, which is thankfully in excellent condition. The teams would be devastated if a mindless vandal had done this to our pitch.

🚨 This is pure evil.
A husband drugs his own wife so he and 12 other men can rape and abuse her for years. He just admitted to rape and multiple sexual assaults in court today.
But here’s the kicker: none of them can be named “for legal reasons.”
How does that even work?
The victim’s identity is shredded forever, her life destroyed, but the monsters who turned her into their shared toy get to hide behind anonymity? So the public can’t know if these animals live next door, work at our kids’ schools, or are walking free on bail?
This isn’t “justice.” This is the system protecting predators over victims - again.
If you’re sick enough to pimp out your unconscious wife to a pack of men, you forfeit every right to privacy. Name them. Shame them. Put their faces everywhere.
Britain has lost its mind.
What’s worse -the crime or the cover-up?
Funny how some feathers get ruffled when a woman shows up. That’s okay—we’ve spent years proving ourselves. Grateful for the ITV team & the incredible people I’ve met in England who care about one thing: whether you’re qualified. Merit should be the standard for everyone.
The misogynist noise that surrounds Emma Hayes is tiresome.
Ignore all that and it’s hard to argue that she isn't the best pundit on UK television at this World Cup.
More, please.

When England play Ghana tonight there will be a suspected prolific rapist on the pitch against them.
Thomas Partey is accused of 7 counts of rape and 1 of sexual assault against 4 separate women in the UK.
No player should be representing their nation with such serious criminal proceedings taking place against them and for crimes of such violence against women.
I hope every England player refuses to shake his hand. Will @england stand with women accusing him? Or with other men? Let’s see.
