Figured it out completely on accident while doing easy dinners all of last summer— a salad and steak or chicken for dinner every night. Hey @TomFitton, I need some "theoretical" legal advice, please?

I'm a property manager for a gated community. It has a strong and capable security force and there are plenty of posted notices that trespassing is absolutely against the law for anybody that doesn’t actually pay to live inside this complex.

The problem is, most of the residents here don’t like me. I’m not as responsible as I should be and I don’t take care of things like I'm supposed to. I’ve been raising rent on a regular basis, but I haven't been using that money to improve and repair the property. Because of that and many other reasons, the majority of the residents in my complex don’t want me here anymore. (The truth is, I only got this job in the first place because some friends of mine pulled some strings).

So, the community decided they are going to hold a special meeting in a few months where they’ll decide if I am allowed to continue as the manager. Everybody inside the complex will be allowed to cast a vote for me or against me. I'm actually kinda worried right now.

Then, a while back this group of strangers came to me and said they wanted access to the gated community. They don't live here or pay rent but they wanted to use the pool, find a place to sleep, do some laundry, etc. The strangers also knew that the residents here all pay into a program that feeds folks inside our complex when they're down on their luck. These strangers know if they can get in, they can get free food, water, housing, medicine and what not from that community program. Originally, I told these strangers that I’m already in a lot of hot water with property residents and I told about the meeting and the vote coming up that could force me out of my managers position. But then I had what seemed like a great idea at the time!

If I let the strangers in, they can get what they want from the complex and the community program. Then in return, they'll all go to the big meeting that's coming up and they'll vote for me so that I can keep my job! I knew I was breaking the law by letting them trespass but I really need the votes in the meeting that's coming up.

I also knew I was going to have to let a lot of the strangers in to offset the number of residents that don't like me. But once they vote for me, I was planning to kick them all out! So, I'd keep my job AND I’d seem like a hero for kicking out all the strangers!

To be honest though, I wasn't really planning for what happened next. The strangers started really messing things up. They steal from the residents and they sell drugs and guns to the kids here. They've even been kidnapping some of the residents and removing them from the complex!

Some of my residents have actually been killed. Some have been raped. It's terrible but I don't want to lose my job, ya know? The worst part is, some of the residents found out that I'm the one that let the strangers in. I've been trying to downplay it. I even tried making the residents feel guilty for having so many great amenities, even though they do pay A LOT to have everything they've got inside our property.

So, the legal advice I need is, how do I get away with this? How can I let the strangers in to vote for me, but also not be held accountable for all the crimes they've been committing here? I'm like an accomplice to all their crimes, right? If I hadn't let them in, they wouldn't be able to do all these things. Since I knew they were doing all of this and I kept letting them in, that's what, a criminal conspiracy? Aiding and abetting? How can I get away with all of this?

I had to raise the rent a lot to fix what the strangers are dedtroying and stealing so even more residents are going to vote against me. Now I have to let even more strangers in. But I need the votes more now than ever!
