BOLTZ FOUNDERS STEP DOWN, MYSTERY GROUP TAKES OVER
Boltz says its entire founding team has stepped down effective immediately, with an unnamed group of veteran Bitcoiners taking over the project after AI-assisted attacks forced the swap service offline.
The five-person startup says increasingly sophisticated attacks caused losses that it lacked the resources to withstand long term. User funds were never at risk due to Boltz’s non-custodial design.
The new owners are reportedly providing fresh capital and engineering resources, with work already underway to fix vulnerabilities and restore swaps as soon as possible.
Boltz declined to identify the new team, saying they will introduce themselves “in their own time.”
The announcement is already raising questions among some users, particularly following the recent expiration of Boltz’s warrant canary.
Boltz’s original team built one of Bitcoin’s most widely used interoperability stacks, pioneering Liquid submarine swaps, Taproot-native swaps and direct chain swaps.
Now the project enters a new era with entirely new, and for the moment anonymous, ownership.
We have some difficult news to share. Unfortunately, one of our shipping providers has experienced a data breach that exposed sensitive order data. This affects new customers in the US, UK, Sweden, Colombia, Brazil, Italy, and Portugal who received an order within the 90 days prior to August 8th, 2026.
The data exposed:
- Full names
- Shipping addresses
- Phone numbers
- Email addresses
The incident affects 11,742 customers with full exposure (name, email, phone number, shipping address) and 1,947 customers with partial exposure (name, city, email). The breach is limited due to Trezor’s strict 90-day data storage policy (we were also able to negotiate the same terms with fulfillment partners, who follow the same policy).
All affected customers have been contacted separately by email.
Our systems and devices remain secure, but affected customers could experience an increase in phishing attempts.
NEVER enter your wallet backup on a website or share it with anyone, and only check for updates on official Trezor channels.
We are deeply sorry to the community and those affected.
We are investigating this situation and will post updates on our blog:

Wallet of Satoshi is going all-in on self-custody.
We've rebuilt WoS so you hold your own Bitcoin and your own keys, with the same simple experience we're known for.
WoS isn't going anywhere. It's becoming what we always wanted it to be. Here's what changes for you.
The old wallet (the custodial one, where we held the keys) is being retired gradually.
Creating new invoices is already off in the US, EU, Australia and New Zealand. At the end of September, the same happens everywhere else.
There is a critical vulnerability being actively exploited on BTCPay Server, which can result in the loss of funds.
Please update your BTCPayServer to 2.4.2 by going to Admin Dashboard -> Server -> Maintenance -> Update & verify the 2.4.2 version string in the footer.
If you are unable to update right away, turn off your BTCPay Server to prevent unauthorized access until you can update.
ZEUS infrastructure is temporarily offline following a cybersecurity incident.
The attack has been mitigated. We are keeping services offline while we conduct a comprehensive audit of all systems before restoring operations.
**Customer funds were neither lost or at risk.**

I've decided to step down as CEO of Twenty One.
This wasn't an easy decision, but it was the right one. This experience brought tremendous clarity about who I am and what I want to build.
My life's work remains Bitcoin. My Bitcoin company is @Strike.
The work continues.
