The American left is in love with a Europe that is simply, substantially poorer in real median terms than we are. They have no pride in the US, but dream of imaginary Copenhagen, intentionally ignorant (but mostly just lying) about how poor they are compared to us. This euro obsession goes back to Woodrow Wilson, their beloved, disgraced racist eugenicist forebear.

Working class Americans live very well by European standards. We can do even better, by being even less like Europe, with even freer markets and cheaper energy.

Our poorest states like Mississippi have median incomes that rival the large euro economies. The gap grows when looking at disposable income.

Obviously there is some blind black tribal loyalty involved, but I think there’s something else and arguably worse.

The facts seem to be this: Karmelo invaded another track team’s tent. He did this to assert dominance. When asked to leave, he issued threats: “touch me and see what happens.” After repeatedly telling him that he was not welcome, and in response to provocation, Austin Metcalf pushed him, trying to get him to comply with basic social norms. Karmelo, no doubt delighted that he had now received permission for escalation under his own code, stabbed Austin to death.

The black defenders of Karmelo believe this is how society should operate: an endless war of all against all to assert dominance, escalating when one’s assertions are rebuffed. They’re mad that the justice system got involved, because in their minds this is the proper way to conduct business: omnipresent dominance signaling, inevitably leading to violence.

They genuinely don’t understand that other people don’t operate according to those rules. And they certainly don’t understand that our rules, by drastically reducing friction and needless cost, are the very reason for the disparities in group power they complain about. We are polite internally and can thus exert greater collective power externally. A few Karmelos in the mix destroys this system.

But they don’t care that running things their way would be the end of civilization, the end of their cell phones and EBT and air conditioning, because they don’t understand it. They don’t understand anything about the modern world. They are lost here, confused. This state of affairs is not sustainable.

The production of Christopher Nolan received permission for 15 days of filming in Greece with a budget of 16 million euros. The Greek state gave them 6 million as a subsidy from the money of Greek taxpayers, who were never informed about the cast of the film or the distortion of the most important work in our history.

The issue here is not that they received money. We Greeks would gladly have given all 16 million for Nolan to shoot a faithful Odyssey. But it should have been a film that properly represents us Greeks, Hellenism and stays true to the values and writings of Homer. Not so we Greeks could pay for a Black Helen and Clytemnestra, a Batman-like Agamemnon, a trans Achilles or Elpenor (a woman playing a male role), a Black Athena, and a script based on the worst possible "translation" that exists.

In short, Nolan disrespected all Greeks, while the Greek people are now officially in the crosshairs of racism and the falsification of their history and culture. Woke Hollywood must die.

Almost all rationalizations for this war save the most risible (Trump said we should use the military to rescue the hostages in 1980!) are premised on the assumed self-interest of an abstraction called America (America needs to stop the Islamic Revolution and take the oil from China etc). If you believe as I do that behind that abstraction sits a degraded, incoherent citizen body bereft of a meaningful national identity, then you're at best indifferent.

What bothers me and causes me to want to oppose the war is that I get the sense that the self-interested agent sitting behind that abstraction in these rationalizations is the foreign policy establishment that presided over the degradation of the citizen body (and no, I don't think getting rid of USAID and Robert Malley constitutes a wholesale changing of the guard). The lip service paid during the Trump campaign and the few years of decent immigration policy, for which I am grateful, are insufficient to warrant identifying with the foreign policy establishment.

Most of the people on here can only process the rationalizations (and they are countless, from the fulfillment of apocalyptic prophecy to eliminating a subversion threat) and don't stop to consider whom they're legitimizing and empowering with their support.

This isn't a deal-breaker for me because I'm a single-issue voter on immigration, and because I know the foreign policy establishment is virtually impervious to democratic reform, but it bothers me enough to not want to play cheerleader online.
