Less than an hour after a video surfaced showing a Manipuri Naga woman allegedly calling for the "cleansing" of Kukis from the hills, a deadly pre-dawn attack struck Kultuh village in Kamjong, killing two Kuki church leaders.

I strongly condemn the pre-dawn attack on Kultuh Kuki village, Kamjong District, allegedly by armed NSCN-IM (EF) terrorists, which resulted in the killing of the village Church Deacon and Youth Leader, as well as the burning of multiple houses.
My deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the Kultuh Villagers during this hour of grief.
I urge the government to immediately deploy security forces to all vulnerable Kuki villages in Kamjong and Ukhrul Districts. I also call for adequate compensation and rehabilitation for the families of the deceased and for residents whose homes were burned down this morning.

Under a leaking tarpaulin, in the middle of rain and mud, the coffins of two church leaders from Kultuh Village lie in silence.

Rev. Letminlun Haokip and Lunminthang Haokip were not armed volunteers . They were servants of God and their community. Yet their lives were cut short, burned alive, leaving their families grieving and their village shattered. The rain signifies the tears of all the death Kukis in the past few weeks, Helpless, Cold and longing for justice.

11 March, Litan: 2 killed
24 April, Mulam-Songphel: 2 killed
13 May, Kotzim-Kotlen Route : 3 killed
5 June, Loibol Khullen : 3 killed (including a 7-month pregnant woman)

11 June, Kultuh Village : 2 killed
Thirteen lives. Thirteen families shattered. No amount of rain can wash away this grief, and no amount of silence can erase these names.

Unequal treatment based on ethnicity speaks for itself. Justice cannot change with ethnicity. A state that values some lives more than others has destroyed the Kuki people's faith in Manipur's model of law, democracy and its meitei centric state government itself.

Kuki people need their own government to look after their own state of affairs and have a voice for their own welfare.

The alleged abduction of 14 people in Manipur’s Senapati district has drawn attention after Young Pillars College Principal and MD Samuel Haokip stated that a 16-year-old student, Hengunsei Khongsai, is among those detained.

Haokip said Hengunsei had recently completed his Class 11 final exams, is a minor with a disability, and had lost both parents. He said the group had gone to earn daily wages and was on their way back to Taphou village when they were stopped near Mount Everest College in Senapati.

He alleged that members of the Senapati District Student Association (SDSA), along with police personnel present at the spot, were involved in the incident, and appealed for the release of all 14 individuals and an investigation into the matter.

We strongly urge the Government of India, the Government of Manipur, and all security agencies to immediately locate and rescue the remaining hostages before the situation worsens further. The safety and lives of citizens cannot be treated as secondary.

We also appeal to #Tangkhul/#ManipurNaga civil society organisations and all involved groups to act with humanity and conscience. The continued detention of hostages only deepens wounds and pushes communities further away from peace and reconciliation.
