London has officially launched its bid to host WorldPride in 2032, with the proposed event set to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the city's first official Pride march in 1972.

The global LGBTQ+ celebration, held every two years, is currently taking place in Amsterdam before heading to Cape Town in 2028. If the bid that London announced on Thursday (6 August) is successful, the city hopes to welcome visitors from around the world in 2032 for what would be one of its biggest-ever Pride celebrations.

To mark the launch, Pride in London, Outernet and UK Black Pride have unveiled a community-driven campaign inviting people around the world to submit photos celebrating LGBTQ+ identity, allyship and belonging. Those images will form a large-scale mosaic showcasing Pride in all its forms.

Organisers have also opened a nationwide competition to design the official WorldPride 2032 bid logo, with the winning designer receiving a £3,000 prize.

"Pride has always been powered by community," said Pride in London interim CEO Rebecca Paisis in a statement to The Independent and The Standard. "As we approach the 60th anniversary of London's first Pride march, this project gives every generation an opportunity to leave their mark on what could become one of the defining moments in our movement's history."

'I will never be safe in a man's toilet', says Isabella who is a trans woman.

Thousands of single-sex spaces in the UK, like changing rooms and toilets, should be used based on biological sex, according to new guidelines that come into place today from the Equalities and Human Rights Commission. The guidance says trans people should instead be offered a separate mixed-sex space.

It follows a Supreme Court ruling last year that the definition of sex for the purposes of the Equality Act means biological sex - the sex of a person at birth, not the gender you identify with.

While gender critical organisations welcome clarification on the law', many in the trans community and LGBTQ+ organisations feel the guidelines leave them more open to discrimination.
