@Brit_Brit_J Good luck Brittney! I've really loved seeing your tweets throughout the semester, it's nice to see what is going on in different parts of the school day than in the general classroom ๐ค
Currently preparing for my second observation that will be on Thursday. I'll be teaching a phonics lesson to a small group. While planning, it's been really convenient to be able to look at my class materials from EDU332 to plan a really meaningful and intentional lesson #EDU310
She seemed very frustrated, and I could tell that it was impacting the entire classroom in a serious way. Witnessing this makes me nervous, but I feel a lot more aware of what I may go through eventually as a teacher. All in a day's work, I guess!
#EDU310 yesterday at my placement, my MT left me in charge of the class while she left to take care of a situation. During this time, someone from admin came in and started observing me! MT says that admin had been in observing every day this week
@Leah27269938 Leah, providing students with effective encouragement really takes some skill, especially with timing. It's awesome to hear that you're already feeling comfortable doing so. Congrats on finishing up your observation! ๐
@ReeceWorac001 Reece, I also get to sit in on phonics lessons in my placement. I think it's really cool to see what we're learning about in our literacy courses in action! Is there a specific strategy that you saw that you liked?
He didn't want to work, but I made a deal that if he did the planned activity for 15 minutes, we could spend the last 5 minutes drawing a picture together. He made a lot of progress in those 15 minutes and I think he was feeling a little less down by the end of it ๐
#EDU310 Today at my placement, I spent most of my time working 1-on-1 with a student who was really struggling with having a substitute teacher for the day. He has been feeling down in general lately, and I could see how much impact the teacher absence was having on him.
While I was at my placement yesterday, 4 supervisors came in to observe my MT all at once with no heads up. I could see that it was really confusing for the students and stressful for my MT, but she held it together really well. It was a good lesson to always be prepared! #EDU310
@tdoherty333 I feel the same way about simplifying communication and instructions. I feel like my MT always has exactly the right words to say, and I am just not there yet. I think itโll come with practice!! Good luck on your observation, Tommy!!
I did my first read aloud today! It wasnโt planned so I didnโt have time to prepare, but I was actively trying to apply what weโve been learning in EDU333 and I think it went really well. This story is in mostly English but used Spanish as well, so that was a challenge! #EDU310
@tony_sertic That is so stressful, but itโs good to hear that you were able to push through! Itโs scary to rely on technology, but at the same time it opens up so many doors for new learning resources. Itโs always best to have a back up plan. Iโm glad everything went well, Tony!
Completed my first observation today and it went great! My students were engaged and very respectful of the process, I feel so lucky to be working with such a great group. We did an ALICE drill right after and they handled it very well. I am feeling so PROUD of them ๐ #EDU310
Especially with formative assessment, I am finding that a lot of the assessment methods I have used in lesson plans before don't feel practical to use while in action. It's been challenging, but I am learning a lot!
I have my first observation this week! I have found lesson planning to be really interesting but also intimidating, since all of the planning I have done thus far has been hypothetical. It feels very different to be thinking about it in the context of a real classroom #EDU310
@teacherashley21 It's wonderful that you're beginning to build relationships and support your students in growing so early on! It's always tough with a substitute, but I'm sure that just your presence will help a lot of students feel more normal in that situation. Hopefully all went well! ๐
(2) I felt like a few students were distracted because I was administering the assessment instead of the MT. I want to make sure that I serve as a tool in the classroom rather than a distraction. Any strategies for quickly redirecting attention? ๐๐ป
(1) Last week, I did running record assessments with my students. They were given a list of โlong Oโ words and had to read through as many as they could in a minute. Their scores were then logged into a table to track their progress over the school year #EDU310
@Miss_ZoeK Yes! My MT allows the students to go up and give themselves a dojo when they earn one. Iโve noticed that when dojos are offered, the quieter students and the students who struggle a little more with the content are much more motivated to speak up or take a guess :) great tool
