@MasterNumber I salute you! I think those on the path know the dark night of the soul has to be met and faced but that we are always supported throughout.
@ianbhood I’d suggest University funding is awarded dependent on whose really funding the survey! And outcome is directed by funder/government so it’s a busted flush from the onset.
The furious replies to the attached thread tell us something important.
The British state needs you to believe the Jacobites were backward rebels, not anti-colonial fighters.
Why? Because if that myth falls, the whole foundation of UK Union begins to crack.
Let’s unpack it.

@ethylsmith We can honour Covenanter resistance and acknowledge that 1715 & 1745 were, for many, anti-colonial.
History is layered. Memory can hold more than one truth.
That’s what they don’t want us to realise.

@JohnHann04 John - it’s not that we don’t like the English people - it’s Westminster rule that is the issue. And I’d suggest the people do not want to join the EU. But we haven’t been asked that. It has clearly been assumed.
Most Scots I know do not see Russia as their enemy. They're indifferent to the war in Ukraine. Inasmuch as they do take an interest in it, they want it to stop.
The British state throughout the conflict has persisted in goading Ukraine to continue in battle, not to seek peace.
¡Gracias preciosas abejas!
On this day in 1305: William Wallace was brutally executed in London. Just 18 days earlier, he was betrayed at Robroyston by John de Menteith, a Scottish knight loyal to England. Taken to Westminster Hall, Wallace faced a sham trial for treason. This amazing statue is in Aberdeen
Holy shit, I don't think I'm going to make it out alive. I'm heading into the lion's den dystopian shithole no-go zone known as Glasgow. Pray for me @BBC
2am, Hope Street, Glasgow. Local fish and chips places. Every minute of sleep in this beautiful city would be a waste of time.
Glasgow. The home of Andy Robertson, Billy Connolly, James McAvoy, but also James Watt, Adam Smith...

The hatchet job on Glasgow by the BBC showed just how easy it is for the station to manufacture news. Someone stood in St Enoch Square at night, spliced his footage with right-wing social media clips, added news clips of a racist protest and hey presto - 'lawless Glasgow'.
It's cheap and lazy and certainly not what you'd expect from a national broadcaster. But that's just it. The BBC isn't Scotland's national broadcaster, which is why Myles Bonnar was commissioned to make Glasgow look as bad as possible.
We wonder what @MylesBonnar himself privately feels about the depiction of Glasgow. Was it appropriate to have images of thugs in balaclavas with the caption "Welcome to Glasgow"? Does Myles truly believe the city is lawless? Is St Enoch Square really a no-go area?
Is the truth a little less melodramatic in that Glasgow, like all major cities, has low level crime that's tolerated by police and small pockets you'd be best to avoid late at night or in the early hours? Zombie apocalypse? Really?
I regularly visit Dundee as it’s only a few miles away from where I live. I am very fond of the city. But its decline in recent years is absolutely horrendous. A once glorious city is now full of decay. Boarded up shops. Dirty streets and buildings. Derelict buildings. Pavements covered in weeds. Homeless everywhere. Litter everywhere. Parts of the city centre look hollowed out and completely run down in comparison to its former vibrant and bustling eras of the past. And it’s happening all over the UK.
Shame on the local councils who are clearly not bothering to use council tax money on the basic maintenance of civic pride and a failure in providing the opportunities for business and enterprise to flourish.
What was once vibrant and bustling city has been reduced to a ghost of its former self. This is not inevitable. It is the direct result of national and local governments that collect our tax money, yet treat the most basic duties of maintenance and civic pride as optional extras. They have failed to keep the streets clean, the buildings standing and the conditions alive in which enterprise can breathe. And Dundee is no isolated tragedy. The same high street decay is recognisable across the UK.
Shame on those who hold the power and the purse yet choose neglect over responsibility. A town or city does not decay by accident. It decays when those charged with its care simply stop doing their job properly.
