Jesus didn't preach a gospel that said, "believe in me so that when you die you can enter into my kingdom.”
He preached, "believe in me so you can enter the kingdom now, which will continue after you die."
In his gospel, Luke lists all the political & religious leaders in power & then notes how the word of God bypassed them and came to John in the wilderness.
The locus of God’s presence & activity is not found in the corridors of great power.
The first person in scripture to name God is Hagar.
A woman. Single mother. Enslaved African.
She says “I have seen the one who sees me.”
God calls her by name. But Abram and Sarai do not.
God has a way of exalting the vulnerable.
Today. Seven years ago today, you made a decision. That decision saved many of your friends. I watched you in the video doing exactly what I knew you would. You chose to stay behind so others could escape the kill zone. Directing your truck into a blocking position, you exposed yourself to enemy fire multiple times. When your friend was hit and went down, you left your cover once more, exposing yourself to enemy fire, as you tried to get to him. But the enemy got to you first. This is the story of your last moments, the story of a hero. The untold story that haunts my dreams and your parents every waking hour. We know what you did, and we know the credit you were not given, but we also know that you didn’t do it for glory or recognition; you did it for love. That is why when we honor you, we always first remember the bible verse that best speaks to the man you were, and we are comforted knowing your greatest reward greeted you in heaven. “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:13
Rest Easy Hero.
It’s incredibly challenging when Christians on various sides think the other side is delusional, blind, trapped, etc.
How do we know who is being faithful to God?
The litmus test:
Cruciform love. Love for the poor.
That’s how we know.
Olympic Gold Medalist Sydney McLaughlin on her relationship with God:
“I credit all that I do to God. Regardless of what happens, He’s going to get the praise. Every time I step on the track I pray “let me be the vessel in which you’re glorified”… That’s why I do what I do.” 🙏
Them: the world is mocking us.
Me: Like Christ has said they would.
Them: We need to make them stop.
Me: "They know not what they do." That's what Jesus said when he was mocked.
Them: We need to stand up or Christianity will perish.
Me: God will preserve his church.
Them: But they want to shut down the church.
Me: I don't know, I just think God is stronger. I don't think the world can throw anything at God that will prevent him from keeping his promises. Historically churches have thrived under persecution. Romans says that there's nothing that will separate us from the love of God...
Them: But they'll bring suffering.
Me: Again, as Jesus predicted. It's sad, and not what I want, but I'm not going to call him a liar. So we are to serve and love our neighbors as he told us to.
Everyone calm down. God keeps his promises.
Prince Harry’s acceptance speech for the Patt Tillman Award for Service is worth 5 min of your time. There is no doubt that he is worthy of this award and no doubt that what he is doing is changing lives for the better.
“[Jesus’s] death was the ultimate judgment.
A final statement that the way that we've set up things here on earth is inhospitable to the presence of God.
His resurrection was a louder statement...
The hostility of the world is no match for God's love.”

President Biden: Walk the roads of the cemeteries I have. Nearly 10,000 heroes buried side by side. Different races, faiths, but all Americans, all served with honor when America and the world needed them the most. Millions back home did their part as well. They understood that our democracy is only as strong as all of us make it together. The men who fought here became heroes. Not because they were the strongest, toughest, or fiercest, although they were, but because they were given an audacious mission and were risking their lives. But they did it anyway. They knew beyond any doubt that there are things that are worth fighting for. Freedom is worth it. Democracy is worth it. America is worth it. The world is worth it. Here we proved the forces of liberty are stronger than the forces of conquest. Here we proved that the ideals of our democracy are stronger than any army
