The Government of South Africa announced the inclusion of holders of valid Ugandan passports in South Africa’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system.
But what does this actually mean for Ugandans planning to travel to South Africa?
👉 You apply online before travelling.
👉 You do not need a VFS appointment for the eTA application.
👉 You must still meet all applicable immigration and entry requirements when you arrive.
In 2022, Bukayo Saka funded surgeries for 120 Nigerian 🇳🇬 children with conditions like brain tumors and hernias.
In 2023, he provided accommodation for 26 families affected by the Turkish earthquake.
His supportive act has profoundly impacted many lives at a remarkable speed.
A degree was once seen as a passport to a better future, but one in six students now view it as a "visa" that gets them to the application process but no further.

A hospital in rural Uganda runs surgery off-grid, and a surgeon in New York can watch the operation live.
The Mount Sinai Kyabirwa Surgical Facility sits in Jinja, Uganda, built with local labor using red clay dug from nearby sites and fired into brick on location. Those bricks form perforated screen walls that ventilate the entire building naturally, no mechanical cooling anywhere except the sealed operating rooms.
The roof is a canopy of solar panels, shaped after banana leaves, the same plant growing wild around the site. The panels shade the building and power it. A battery system stores enough energy to keep the facility running for two full days if the grid fails, which in that region, it often does.
Twenty miles of underground fiber optic cable connect this rural facility to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Surgeons there consult live, video calling directly into operations happening on the ground in Uganda. Water comes from a well and gravity tanks, filtered and sterilized onsite. Roof runoff flushes the toilets and waters a garden that feeds patients and staff. Waste is treated onsite too, nothing trucked out, nothing dependent on infrastructure that doesn't reliably exist there.
This is not a hospital that survives despite being off-grid. It was designed to run better because of it.

Meet Désiré Kabengele, a Congolese engineer and founder of Desire Tech, turning everyday problems into practical innovations🇨🇩
One of his standout inventions is Kivu Fitness a wooden treadmill that operates without electricity or a motor, powered entirely by the user’s own movement.
But that’s not all. His innovations also include:
1. Congo Recycling turning plastic waste into usable fuel.
2. Agri Africa, developing affordable machinery for small-scale farmers, including a multifunctional mini-tractor developed in 2025.
In 2022, Kabengele was selected by Light RDC among 50 promising young talents in technology.
No electricity. No motor. Just engineering, creativity and determination.
Pictures tell us stories, and this picture tells a great story of the journey from Mucwini to the world.
Mucwini may not be a name many recognise, but it is a village in Kitgum District in Northern Uganda, and the birthplace of both Amb. Olara Otunnu and Archbishop Janani Luwum. To see two sons of Mucwini rise to global prominence, and now to see one standing before the statue of the other at Westminster Abbey, is a moment to behold.
There is another remarkable thread to this story, one that runs through Amb. Olara’s parents, Evangelist Yusto Otunnu and Josephine Amato Otunnu, who as preachers pioneered the East African Revival in Northern Uganda. In January 1948, during one of their missions, they led the young 24-year-old teacher Janani Luwum to accept Jesus Christ as his Saviour. This was two years before Olara was born. With the support of the Otunnu family and the wider revival movement, Luwum grew in his new faith and went on to become Archbishop of Uganda. He was a fierce and courageous crusader against injustice, for which he was ultimately murdered by Idi Amin.
As a martyr honoured for the fight against oppression, Luwum's statue stands tall at Westminster Abbey, at the epicentre of power in the heart of the country whose empire once colonised Uganda.
As we reflect on these threads from Mucwini to the world, may we find inspiration as we live out our own lives. May this story resonate especially with those who see greatness, or the world stage, as too distant a possibility. May their thoughts change from the question "How is it possible?" to the assurance “If two village boys could emerge from Mucwini, then surely it is possible.”
We wish the best to @Olara_Otunnu — this son of Mucwini, this son of Uganda, this son of Yusto and Josephine Otunnu — as he traverses the nations with @RuhakanaR mobilising support to become the next Secretary-General of the United Nations.

“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Watoto Church Wins Court Battle Over Government Heritage Listing of Kampala Property
Watoto Church Ministries has won a High Court battle against government over the heritage listing of its Kampala Road and Buganda Road property. Court quashed the designation after finding illegality, irrationality, and procedural impropriety, potentially clearing a key legal hurdle to Watoto’s redevelopment plans while allowing future lawful heritage protection.
