The 2026 numbers look obvious and not extraordinary for India as it is today. But understand how bad the numbers were in 2014, and 2014 is not as far away as you think it is. We all have memories from 2014 and we feel it isn’t that far.. And imagine if we had those numbers today.
Gujarat, with less people and zero oil reserves now has a higher nominal GDP than Iran.
Even with USD to INR at 96, Gujarat’s GDP is $346 billion.
Iran’s oil industry is heavily controlled by the government. It’s insanely inefficient. Sanctions aren’t a sufficient explanation for low productivity.
