Dear followers, please see this new paper on the labor market and macroeconomic effects of low birth rates. Although almost all analysts and policymakers are very worried about the prospect of stagnant and aging populations, the evidence from cross-country and within the United States points to the opposite: lower birth rates predict faster growth of GDP per worker and wages. The reason: labor scarcity encourages more technology adoption.
My idea of a good time is working with amazing engineers to create incredible technology 🤩
The Tesla chip research fab will have all the machines needed to do logic, memory, packing & masks in one building for a lightning fast development cycle. Heaven 💫
Have kids, and don't kick them out at 18.
If you have kids, you don't get these existential questions like ones Eric is posing.
The party doesn't get old. While you may get old, your kids grow in strength, their life grows beyond the house. They make friends. Their families become your family friends.
Your life's mission becomes helping them succeed in the endeavours they love. Their sports games, exams, affairs, jobs, foreign trips - keep your life eventful.
You continue to live life vicariously through them.
You die knowing you have stake in the future beyond your last breathe.
Kids are awesome.
I just read the current grokipedia article on the Great Barrington Declaration. It's balanced & almost entirely factually accurate (though it still has me as Stanford prof.). Wikipedia, by contrast, is biased, bordering on libelous. Thank you @elonmusk!

Marc Andreessen just revealed exactly how Elon Musk delivered the hammer blow that ended the US Government's illegal internet censorship operation.
Humanity is forever in your debt, @elonmusk.
And thank you for these revelations, @pmarca.

MILEI: ELON’S 𝕏 HAS SAVED HUMANITY
“There is a silent majority, or rather silenced, that has begun to make itself heard despite the enemies of freedom clinging to power by using and abusing propaganda, distortion, and censorship.
That is why I want to particularly thank the great Elon Musk for his enormous work on 𝕏 that has saved humanity.
What happened in Argentina first and in this election in the U.S. is now a clear proof of it.
All over the world, two great opposing positions are forming: those who are ashamed of Western values against those of us who are proud of them.
The State Party against the Free Citizens Party.
The Regulation Party against the Freedom Party.”

Perhaps the most important lesson from the presidential debate that people will take away is the betrayal by the so-called elites--the media, insiders, the Beltway rent-takers--who assured the people that Biden was fine. So Trump benefits not just because he looks more energetic than Biden but because somehow Trump, this wealthy real-estate wheeler-dealer, has become the embodiment of the revolt of the masses against the elites, the deep state, the experts who tried in their own self-interest to hide Biden's physical and mental fragility. Trump is the champion of the people against the fear they have that others (the lawyers, the financial giants, all the insiders) have rigged the game for their own benefit. The scrambling to pretend that Biden just had a bad night makes it worse. It reinforces the feeling that inside the Beltway, winning is all that matters. Some are arguing that Trump made a tactical error in agreeing to an early debate because it allows Biden to be replaced before the convention with a younger, more effective candidate. That ignores the cost to the Democratic brand of keeping Biden in the race this long, and even worse, in the presidency, where it is clear that he cannot actually be the one making the decisions. White House aides are allegedly saying that Biden is quite alert between 10 am and 4 pm. This claim was mocked ruthlessly yesterday but I don't think it was a serious claim. It was a way of saying he is not fit to be the candidate in November or the president today. We are in an absurd moment. But all of the absurdity helps Trump. Trump's narcissism and his failure to respect democratic institutions are deeply disturbing. But using that fear to justify or rationalize hiding the reality that the President of the United States is a shell of himself and that unknown others are running things behind the scenes is also disturbing and merely reinforce Trump's narrative that he is the victim of nefarious forces. Put on your seatbelts, world. We're in for a very rocky ride.
“Any great power that spends more on debt service than on defense will not stay great for very long. True of Habsburg Spain, true of ancien régime France, true of the Ottoman Empire, true of the British Empire, this law is about to be put to the test by the U.S. beginning this very year.”
