Imran Khan is Isolated!

Over the past 8 months, Imran Khan has been subjected to increasing isolation in Adiala Jail.

1. Imran Khan has not been allowed to speak to his sons for the past six months, despite jail regulations allowing weekly calls. This continued denial is both inhumane and unlawful.
2. Over the past month, the jail authorities have refused to provide him the books we submitted , a clear attempt to cut him off intellectually and spiritually.
3. For the past eight months, as head of the largest political party in Pakistan, Imran Khan has been barred from meeting his party members. He is being denied his constitutional right to political consultation and leadership.
4. Imran Khan has been denied proper access to his legal team for several weeks. On Tuesday, July 1, his lawyer Zaheer Abbas was granted only 95 seconds to consult with him , an utter mockery of due process.
5. Our family has been blocked from meeting Imran Khan for several months. For the past three months, my sisters and I arrive at Adiala, only to be stopped several kilometers before the prison by Punjab Police. Volunteers stand with us at these roadblocks. We then walk 1.5 km to the next blockade. After hours of waiting, only Dr. Uzma Khan and Noreen Niazi are allowed to briefly see their brother. What used to be a half-hour visit has now been reduced to just 15 minutes , for the past four Tuesdays.
6. For the past ten months, Imran Khan’s doctors ( Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Aasim Yusaf ) have not been allowed to examine him. His health is being put at risk by the continued denial of essential medical care.

We have been told that this extreme isolation is being enforced on the instructions of Maryam Nawaz, not the colonel controlling Adiala. The jail lies in Punjab, where a 17-seat PML-N government is so fearful that it has blocked all access to Imran Khan. They fear any information going in or coming out.

Insha’Allah, we will continue to bring out Imran Khan’s complete message until he is freed from this illegal incarceration and once again leads his people.

I'm sharing data from NEPRA for Jan 24 to March 24 showing a capacity payment of 150 billion PKR per month. Please note how this amount is distributed to various IPPs, with half running below 10% capacity. Four power plants are receiving 1000 crores per month each with #zero power supply.* This money, our halal income, is being given to 40 families under the guise of capacity charges. These plants should be declared merchant plants, where payments are made only for electricity produced, and we should buy from the cheapest suppliers. The government should not do business at the expense of the people of Pakistan. NEPRA must include representation from all large consumers in its distribution and management. This exploitation must end.

I am sharing with the Nation the IPP data our team has evaluated on the cost of fuel, cost of capacity payments, and cost per unit paid to every IPP over the last full year. I am shocked to see this per unit data which government is paying on Nation’s behalf to the IPP for electricity capacity payment per unit and cost per unit which is causing this misery to Industrial, Commercial and Domestic consumers. Government is buying because of these IPP agreements, the highest electricity units at Rs 750 per unit from a power plant, while it is buying at an average of Rs 200 per unit from coal power plants. Above Rs 50 per unit from Wind and Solar. All below 20 percent of capacity and payment made to IPPs is Rs 1.95 Trillion and balance 160 Billion is under verification. Government is making capacity payments of Rs 140 billion to one plant at a 15 percent load factor, Rs 120 billion to another plant at a 17 percent load factor, and Rs 100 billion to a third plant at a 22 percent load factor. This totals to Rs 370 billion to just three plants. Running at 15 percent load factor all year.

All the IPP data, including the amount paid to each of them and the per unit cost to the nation from each IPP is now available. This is all due to the term "capacity payment" in the contracts, which allows plants to be highly over-invoiced, resulting in huge capacity payments to IPPs without producing electricity.

The solution is "No Capacity Payment", only payments for electricity purchases from the cheapest electricity suppliers. All IPPs should be treated as merchant plants like any other business, 52 percent are owned by the Government and 28 per percent are owned by Pakistan's Private Sector so 80 percent are owned by Pakistanis. Electricity being sold to us at Rs 60 per unit is only because of these corrupt contracts, mismanagement and incompetence. Please, all must rise against these agreements with 40 families to save your Country.
