@SamaHoole How many world class, or for that matter national-level bodybuilders, strongmen, olympic lifters or powerlifters eat no exogenous carbs? I'll wait.................................
@Alan_Couzens Wouldn't a VO2 max of 50 at age 70 be at the 99th percentile? If so, your chance of it being at that level isn't great regardless of what it might have been at age 50.
@newstart_2024 What a shocker to learn that for a healthy man over 75 with no CVD that statins offer little benefit. That's like saying that an appendectomy offers little benefit for those with a non-inflamed appendix.
@Dreamchaser4132@ProfTimNoakes And also for daily 100 mile cycling races which run for 3 weeks. Do some not realize that these cycling teams have studied this stuff?
@BuildingOnShift@SBakerMD No it didn't. Muscle glycogen, even from gluconeogenesis while on a carnivore or keto diet, is enough to fuel such short duration efforts without exogenous carb fueling.
@bakrantz@provomitch@SBakerMD 500 m row is an anaerobic (glycolytic) event. In the absence of dietary carbs gluconeogenesis will provide enough muscle glycogen to power it. Get much beyond this distance (1500m +) and you will have an advantage if you maximize muscle glycogen with pre-event carb fueling.
@SBakerMD Actually, research has shown carbs to provide a performance advantage in running distances as short as 10k, and at distances as short as 5k maximized glycogen stores are a significant advantage. Such stores are depleted while on a ketogenic diet.
@SamaHoole Of course old age has been with us, but not at the same percentage of total population. If you are 65 today, 40-50% chance you will reach age 85. In 1926, only a 14-15% chance.
