Yesterday, Austria, Germany & Italy argued against suspending the EU's Association Agreement with Israel (despite the EU finding it in breach of its human rights obligations). Instead, they urged dialogue and engagement as the only way forward.

"Two days ago, in this very chamber, I made a direct appeal: Give peace a chance.
That call was not heeded.
Instead, the bombing of Iranian nuclear facilities by the US marks a perilous turn in a region that is already reeling." - @antonioguterres at UN Security Council
Focus is understandably on Iran, but this also has enormous repercussions for the broader nonproliferation regime. The US killed an effective deal, failed to negotiate a new one & Trump's use of military force is likely to push Iran toward the bomb.

This is @Amnesty response to the ousting of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad following the seizure of power by opposition forces in the capital city of Damascus:
The historic opportunity to end and redress decades of grave human rights violations under President Assad must be seized. Amnesty International calls on opposition forces to break free from the violence of the past. The most important step is justice, and not retribution.

80% of the #Gaza Strip is now high risk areas where people are forced to flee in search for the basics especially the nonexistent safety.
They are trapped with no safe place to go.
In northern Gaza, people remain under a tight siege. They run for their lives in vicious circles and have been deprived of humanitarian aid for more than 40 days now.
Across Gaza, the delivery of the little aid allowed in has become overly complex including because of insecure routes.
Civil order has been destroyed.
It can be reestablished by
#ceasefire + accountability.
Good moment to recall this recent statement by 93 countries committing "unwavering support" for the ICC and pledging to preserve its integrity "from any political interference and pressure against the Court".
Includes UK, Canada, Australia and all EU member states except Hungary
We welcome the decision of the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants against Israeli leaders for war crimes including “starvation as a method of warfare” and “the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution, and other inhumane acts”.
I take note of the decision of the @IntlCrimCourt to issue arrest warrants for Israel PM Netanyahu, former Minister Gallant, and Hamas leader Deif.
These decisions are binding on all States party to the Rome Statute, which includes all EU Member States.
No one is above international law. No government officials, elected or not. No leaders of armed groups. No one is above the law.

The weight of evidence is so overwhelming that the ICC had no choice but to issue these arrest warrants. All ICC signatories are obligated to enforce the warrants immediately. This has to include the UK.
In the 12 yrs I have worked on humanitarian conflict and crisis it’s hard to think of a year where the ‘rules based order’ has been so consistently undermined by its theoretical champions
Our next 4 years is now likely to centre around ensuring the rules still exist at the end
The last year has wrought so much damage to humanitarian principles, and reversing them will an uphill battle under a trump admin.
This leaving the Biden admin have a chance to change policy in real ways and call for a sea change in policy before #Biden leaves office.
All of the allies who quietly pushed for #Biden to do better on Middle East and humanitarian policy can now or (soon) speak out and play a leading role in changing discourse on #Gaza.
Returning to Gaza now, I see destruction that defies belief, from Rafah, via Khan Yunis, to Gaza City.
This is destruction of an entire society of more than 2 million people, in a densely populated, small, confined territory.
This is in no way “self-defence.”
Latest from the Lebanese ministry of health: 3,002 killed (including 589 women & 185 children; 178 healthcare workers) & 13,492 wounded by Israeli attacks in Lebanon since October 8 last year. Yesterday, 16 people were killed & 90 wounded.
NEW INVESTIGATION: Is Israel taking a page out of its Gaza playbook when it comes to Lebanon’s healthcare sector? @cnn analysis of more than 240 airstrikes found the Israeli military dropped bombs in ‘lethal range’ of 19 hospitals in the first month of its all-out offensive in Lebanon
