I used to feel like a weird outlier for being so ambitious and optimistic — but when I go to things like the YC alumni reunion I feel surrounded by my people.

@ycombinator is a community of builders who want to pull and lift humanity up, no matter how difficult or long the journey.

It requires some serious chutzpah to take on a grandiose challenge because there’s always a lot of fear and loathing about changing the status quo. Inertia wins by default.

What’s clear is that the ideas, people and companies that transform the world take time to produce. Success is nearly always a very circuitous path full of strange side quests and many failures.

One of the best ways to ensure you keep going when the outcome is uncertain is to surround yourself with people who are also irrationally inspired to take on hard problems. Sometimes the best thing we can do is bear witness to each other — it’s a reminder that you’re not alone and aside from physics, very few things are truly immutable.

Nearly everything in life, society, technology and business can be reconfigured.

The people who put in the work to reimagine and remake the world end up in charge of it.
