@itsabestill@mathomp_501 Their lost picks are what is referred to in Accounting as a “sunk cost”. They are lost either way. Trading Kawhi for picks and young talent help to recover the sunk costs from the Paul George and Harden trades.
@mathomp_501@itsabestill Those are in addition to next year’s draft 1st round pick swap. That is why the team is so bereft of young talent and why getting young players and picks through trading Kawhi is necessary.
@mathomp_501@itsabestill The Clippers don’t have a first round pick in 2028. Their own in 2029 is subject to a pick swap with Philadelphia. The Clippers (because of the Paul George) are deficient in young talent because they gave away 5 unprotected first round picks (2 from other teams) and two pick swap
@jon_eng4@LAClippersFilm@dddokkii If they are in the lottery then for sure it’s worth it. Even a pick in the 15 to 22 range could turn out well in the long term. I don’t agree with the importance of Kawhi being kept so that he helps the Clippers to be a fringe playoff team (assuming he is healthy).
@khrisody@creativeether We will see if that ends up being a mistake. I hope it isn’t because of the fit with Garland. The Clippers aren’t in a position to reject a potentially better prospect merely because of another player who can become injured or if necessary traded.
@JamCristopher The first round pick is going to the Thunder next year anyway as Clippers will likely finish behind them and Denver. If you trade Kawhi for picks/players you have a chance for a better future. With Kawhi you have a chance for a decent 1-3 years assuming his body holds up.
