No matter what prayer tune you put in the background, no matter how much you paint a little terrified baby, you can't romanticise this cruelty! This baby is going to spend the next minimum 50 years in isolated captivity!

The Hindu turns 148 today.
The world has changed much since we began as a weekly in 1878. However, the principles we stand for remain the same as when 'The Hindu' published its first editorial on September 20 that year.
Continue to read. Continue to stay informed.
I’m glad he “took me on” long enough to reveal that he doesn’t even know how to read/interpret an Audit paragraph🤦🏼♂️
Why don’t you step up and cite some random paragraph or report to let me expose your ignorance also?
I will never talk to you anyway, so you have nothing to lose
Is it that you don’t understand how to read Audit reports, or that you are trying to fool people to think you’re some kind of smart reporter?
What does this report say?
1. The Committee was created in 2016. What it doesn’t explicitly say, and you’re not competent enough to understand, is that this was a necessary fix to overcome the problem of Union-direct-to-local-body-grant model. There is much to be debated here on the violations of federalism, and we made those points when we were in opposition itself from 2016 on. I don’t know what you were doing then, but clearly you weren’t paying attention to such issues.
2. The committee, like many many such committees, was composed ENTIRELY OF IAS OFFICERS, WITHOUT EITHER THE DEPARTMENT MINISTER OR FINANCE MINISTER as members. Again, there are a lot of problems with such an approach, in my opinion - and it is not in keeping with Democracy. But those issues also are clearly above your level of understanding. The point at your level is….no Minister was ever part of this committee.
3. Just as a quick check of your basic understanding of Government functioning…..how many such committees do you think there are? I bet you cannot estimate within a 50% margin of error. And how often do they meet? Who gets to even see the minutes of such meetings? Try to learn some basics…
4. There is no mechanism for a Minister to be aware of, let alone be responsible for, the actions of any committee whose proceedings he is not a part of. Even a 10-year old can understand that, I think, But clearly you cannot.
5. And what does this audit paragraph actually say? It says that CITIES VIOLATED both the INTENT of the guidelines (by splitting projects to avoid the 2016-determined threshold), and the GUIDELINES themselves by NOT submitting proposals above the threshold to the committee for prior approval.
4. Since you don’t seem to understand the basics of Auditing, let me break it down for you. That charge will have to be answered at the Public Accounts Committee (consisting of MLAs), by the CITIES involved, and possibly the supervisory function at the DMA. NOT by the members of the empowered committee, who were bypassed. You cannot hold the committee responsible for non-submission by Cities. If the PAC decides to take action for the offenses, it will have to act on City/DMA officials. Not any member of the committee, and certainly not on the Finance Secretary.
5. I’m not sure how long you have been doing this, but you clearly have very poor understanding of how to interpret Audit findings. Or how committees work. Or how information is circulated/processed in the government. In fact about a lot of things related to administration and governance.
6. You are a well-intentioned novice at these issues, at best. That is not a sin. But pretending to be much more competent than you are, is definitely misleading/outright lying.
7. As an opposition MLA, I wrote to the concerned Union Minister Thiru Gadkari, asking for a comprehensive Audit because there were MANY MORE violations of the scheme than the issues pointed out in this Audit report. Go and try to find them if you can.
A little knowledge, combined with unwarranted belief in your alleged “expertise” is a dangerous combination.
Since I am tagged here, let me set a few things straight:
1) I am happy to defend my personal record as a Minister on any of the ~7,500 files I processed as Finance & HRM Minister between '21 - '23, or the ~100 I processed as IT Minister between '23 and '26
2) I cannot be held accountable for the actions of others beyond my control, particularly @chennaicorp which you ought to know is a different LEVEL of government (local body), and NOT in the control of the State Finance Ministry
3) No reasonable person would argue that everything was done right by one government, or that nothing is being done right by another government. I am a reasonable person, and hence I will not make such arguments
4) I had great hope that the new Government would use the unique luxury of a clean slate to undertake the profound reforms that are essential if we are to improve as a state, and to bring their vision of a corruption-free model to life - starting with gathering a slate of national & multi-national experts around them to make up for their inexperience
5) I am increasingly disappointed, in fact alarmed, at the looming administrative failure that I see developing - largely as a function of inadequate application of mind and infusion of expertise (which can still be rectified, in my opinion). The focus on image-management has to give way to a focus on actual administration/governance or our future is bleak
6) The failure of the press - acting as cheerleaders and fan media, instead of holding the government to account on administration/governance - is of deep disappointment to me. Many of the Chennai/TN press that held previous governments to account have now turned into fan pages. Do your job, with self-respect. The Govt has enough cheerleaders and can manage without you
7) The Noida (Godi) media, which is an unashamed agent/bootlicker of the Union regime and hence beneath contempt, has started to bring the same parasitic tendencies to TN politics. The injection of this Noida virus is deeply distressing.
I hope my position is clearer now
When Smita Prakash/ANI praises a non BJP state Chief Minister, we know how compromised the said CM is and his well he toes the BJP govt’s line
And why such praise for a CM flagging off a race in the UK when his main agenda of the visit is to secure investment for the State
No better sign of the times than media houses from Chennai to Delhi climbing all over each other to hype this "race" in rural England, while Tamil Nadu suffers rampant crime and ubiquitous power cuts...
The people get the government, and the parasitic media, they deserve...
This is how a politician with dignity would speak. A model message to the followers of DMK. No anger, no hatred, no incitement, just plain statement of facts. Every DMK person should learn from this speech.
A ‘political illiterate’ turned into an ‘elected idiot’ who suffers ‘administrative incompetence‘, coupled with uncivilised and awkward behaviour. What will be the recipe?
MKS has been a statesman through & through. Every time an opportunity was presented he took the high-road even to his own detriment.
To mock him for his physical frailties incurred under police brutalities is the lowest of the low & you do it at your own peril.
Chief minister @actorvijay you don't have locus standing to hold the differently able department. Using disability for a dig at your political opponent is far too low for a chiefminster. Leader must lead by example unlike you! What signals are you emitting to your cadres?
Vijay was supposed to answer questions raised by LoP on law and order, for which he had sought three days. Said almost nothing about law and order. Resorted to distractive politics. But the person who covers politics for The Hindu calls it “fiery speech”. Sigh!
During the Karur tragedy, one leader said, “No political leader would let his own cadre die for political gain.”
That was @mkstalin
Today in the Assembly, another leader turned #Stalin’s MISA imprisonment and the suffering he endured in jail into a body shaming joke.
That is CM #joseph vijay.
I’ll leave the judgment to the people.
Stalin only got his mandible broken in MISA arrest fighting fascists during Emergency only to be mocked like this in assembly
Thank you Tamilnadu people 🙏
I have no words to express my disgust
