recently added to the helium browser:
- opt-in crash reporting, with a prompt after a crash and optional automatic reporting in settings
- fingerprinting protection settings and explainers. helium has had fingerprinting protection for a while, but now you can toggle it per site in case a website misbehaves
- the page zoom indicator is back, with the current zoom percentage, click-to-reset, and an option to hide it
- force pasting in input fields via the right-click menu or a custom keyboard shortcut
- shift + right-click to force-open a context menu
- bookmark bar visibility preferences, including an option to always hide it
- native selection translation on macOS, using apple’s private translation API
- experimental native frame materials on macOS
- tab group UI improvements and alignment fixes that make tab groups readable and coherent across layouts
- theme-tinted browser pages (settings, downloads, bookmarks, etc.)
- cleaner, narrower context menus
- basic page screenshotting
- reverse image search from the context menu when google is selected as the search engine
- fully sharp corners when the rounded frame is disabled, even when a side panel is attached
- fixes for custom keyboard shortcuts on macOS
- a LOT of stability improvements

we focused on stability, peace of mind, and QoL improvements. helium should feel more stable than ever before, and we'll keep fixing any new issues that pop up, with the help of crash reports on all platforms!

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows includes a Global Device ID (GDID), a permanent identifier automatically assigned to a PC during installation.

According to Microsoft, the GDID is used for security purposes,The company says it is not used for advertising or tracking users across apps and websites.

Unlike advertising IDs, the GDID cannot be disabled or reset by users, as it is designed to remain tied to the device for its lifetime.
Microsoft publicly acknowledged the identifier only after it appeared in court documents related to an FBI investigation.

WhatsApp for Windows uses more memory than many expect. A recent report found that the app can consume over 1.2 GB of RAM after opening and switching between chats.

The issue began after Meta replaced the older native Windows app with a WebView2-based version, While this simplifies development, it also makes the app heavier and less efficient.

Users have complained about slower performance, delayed notifications, and the app continuing to run in the background even after closing the window.

Microsoft is facing backlash after a leaked internal document reportedly included the phrase “Make people addicted” as part of a strategy for an AI assistant project.

According to the report, the document outlined plans to build habits around the product and increase daily reliance on it.

After the leak became public, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella pushed back, saying that making users addicted is “absolutely a non goal” and adding, “Not sure what this document is or who is writing and leaking this nonsense!”

The document reportedly identified its authors, adding to the backlash
