Same. Charities are by and large DEI employment programs. So now, if I have a genuinely sweet person at the McDonald’s drive through who says hi to my son… $100 tip. My kids’ friends who are less fortunate? Scholarships. My kids have unexpected car expenses because of the Seattle homeless? I’ll cover it because they never ask me. If I don’t have personal contact with the recipient I don’t ever bother.
Sad on so many levels. Wtf wrong is naïveté anyhow? You know what’s easy? Cynicism. How tf much more cynicism does the world need. You know what’s actually challenging? Keeping a little hope alive. A little innocence is a good thing. Assholes who think being naive is ghey are the joke.
@mon_petit_chou_ My wife just kind of factors it out too. She’s stunning but just doesn’t give a crap about it. Her smile is off the charts sunny and I never stop telling her. Nada!
Man I don’t know. Every single day I was flabbergasted at how beautiful my daughters were and said so all the time. I think it inured them because later they said they thought it was just because I was biased. Problem was, I was gobsmacked period. Still don’t know what I would or could have done differently.
This is not gender related. When I thought my kids did something well I told them so, and was specific. If they created a piece of art that made me happy, that’s what I said. If they said something funny I told them that was a sharp observation. This appears to be the exact opposite of your parents’ approach, which makes me feel a little sad.
@BurchetteMason I don’t mean to boast, but I know a dude in X who actually manufactures steel siding in the US of A and rolls it out in his own shop. Gotta be honest I think that is every bit as impressive.
@JulieChangRE Gorgeous. Plus, Pasadena. I moved from Newport Beach to Washington decades ago and don’t regret it, but man, places like Santa Monica Canyon, Laurel Canyon, and Pasadena always had a hold on me
