My dad—arguably the best in the world—has sailed away. He was an advocate of science, a caring cardiologist, and a history enthusiast. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh. I will do the same: laugh and make laugh, until we meet in the deep blue... So it goes...
@AndrewHires Brilliant. Have you tried feeding it your ND proposals (if you have one)? I want to know if the algorithm has an optimism bias or not. A functional algorithm should be able to somehow rank proposals...
This is something we are very excited about. @lodder_bart led this development project collaborating with @LinTianPhD lab. The technology makes lifetime photometry easy and, with the new dopamine sensor, allows measurements of phasic and tonic DA in vivo

Pls chk out the Bruchas lab's new preprint "Endocannabinoids facilitate transitory reward engagement through retrograde gain-control". Congrats @DavidJMarcus2@cloverpharm@StellaLab11@Graphtablet & many other colleagues. https://t.co/maUis9N2bP
Excited to share work from Twitter less Juan Enriquez-Traba, grad student from the lab. Juan and the team demonstrate that dopamine regulates differential aspects of reward, motivation vs reinforcement, via co-expressed D3 and D1 receptors

Imagine your favorite top level admins at your school. Who court Epsteins to meet their next fundraising goals. Who care more about the alphabet initiatives than the people the alphabet belongs to. Those have taken control of the Democratic party. And sure, pardon your son.
Every neuron in your brain (every cell in your body!) has the potential for universal computation. @theHessam describes why that's important, and one way RNA, and it's secondary structure, could have evolved that ability using combinatory logic.

My paper is out!! 🎉
"Opponent control of reinforcement by striatal dopamine and serotonin", @Nature
Here, we show that dopamine and serotonin signals form a gas-brake system for reward in the mammalian brain 🧠

Kindness trumps excellence. My dad, a farmer’s son who became a pioneering cardiology professor, was remembered after his passing not for his academic/career achievements but for his acts of kindness. It goes to show that kindness outlasts success. Kindness is timeless...

The Fountain is perhaps the best depiction, both visually and musically, of death and humanity's helpless struggle against it, ultimately leading to salvation through acceptance. Listen to the OST for me

Madisonians! I am psyched about Psych 711. It is the first course I have ever taught in a psychology department. Join me; let's read and judge(!) papers, have some fun, and learn some skills together. Here's a greeting from my (non-oval) office to you.
