"As it is dragged along the sea floor, the [bottom] trawl captures, kills or maims everything in its path. Around 19 million tons of marine life meets its end this way each year — more than the combined weight of all the people in Brazil."

In December, the Govt will decide if it will renew the glyphosate licence until 2041…
•That’s 15 more years of impacts on worms, bees, soils and run-off into ponds and rivers, and glyphosate in your food. Sign Garden Organic’s petition NOW to ban this dangerous herbicide.
🥤 If your plastic isn’t getting recycled, where does it go? It often ends up traveling thousands of miles, getting shipped to other countries, or landfilled, or burned. 📢 Aeshnina (Nina) Azzahra Aqilani is a youth activist who has spent years asking adults a simple question: Can you stop sending your plastic waste to my backyard?
🔎 It’s something most people don’t realize: There is a massive waste industry made up of businesses, governments, and individuals vying for a share of the nearly $1,300 billion that is generated annually in the global waste market.
🚢 And a large part of it includes the Global North sending its plastic pollution to the Global South, including Nina’s homeland of Indonesia.
❌ Plastic pollution doesn’t go “away,” it just moves. Would you put your trash in your neighbor’s backyard?
✅ Governments and businesses must stop this practice now, hold polluters accountable, and reduce plastic production today.

The last remaining colony of puffins on the Dorset coast is in danger of being lost altogether, conservationists have warned.
Home to about 40 pairs of puffins around 80 years ago, the colony near Dancing Ledge in Purbeck has dwindled to just three pairs in recent times.
Although these birds have engaged in courtship behaviour, mating, and nest building in each of the last three years, and even feeding chicks in 2023, they have not raised any fledges in recent years.
The National Trust is stepping up its investigation into the decline of the last colony, with motion-sensor trail cameras trying to establish why no chicks are surviving to fledge.

Sir James Bevan spent 8 years at the Environment Agency and oversaw the decimation not only of the agency but every river in the country.
He's recently reappeared again on the boards of Welsh Water and the Canal and Rivers Trust. The man is not fit to handle this week's shopping list never mind run an organisation especially a water company.
Is it right that Sir James Bevan is now a trustee of the Canal and Rivers Trust after his inability to tackle England’s sewage pollution crisis while running the Environment Agency?

🎣ILLEGAL 🇨🇳CHINESE FISHING FLEET OFF CENTRAL 🇻🇳VIETNAM
For the past week, 50+ Chinese fishing ships have been operating 60-80 nautical miles off central #Vietnam's coast near Danang, deep inside Vietnam's exclusive economic zone.
This fishing fleet, based mostly out of Beihei, #China, began deploying to this location on 24 February, with ships moving back and forth to port at intervals to rest and reprovision. Most of these ships are between 35-45 meters--larger than coastal vessels but smaller than distant-water fishing ships.

🚢 Shipping plastic pollution to other countries is not a solution to the plastics crisis, but in reality, it’s a common practice. And it has a name: Waste Colonialism. In 2024, the U.S. alone sent 35,000 tonnes of plastic pollution to Malaysia. The country has said, “no more.” A full electronic waste ban (which is almost entirely plastic) and a three-month moratorium has been placed on plastic waste imports. This follows the 2025 announcement of a plastic waste import ban in Thailand and Indonesia.
🛑 China, once the primary receiver of U.S. plastic waste, banned plastic pollution imports in 2018, but this didn’t stop the flow. The burden just shifted to more countries.
The pattern is clear: as long as the Global North keeps producing and shipping so much plastic, the Global South pays the price.
⚖️ Strong enforcement of this ban is crucial, along with a permanent plastic ban. However, we must stop this issue at the source and pressure the Global North to stop exporting their plastic problem altogether.

@Stagecoach_West Then how come my bus stopped there yesterday and the bus stop is active on your app? I can even see another 9 has stopped there just now (I can see the stop from my office).
Morning @Stagecoach_West. Is the 9 P&R to Brislington still meant to be stopping at the Temple Way stops? My driver refused to stop at my stop because of road works, saying they'd all been told not to. But I'm sure the stop is still open...
@InPostUK My parcel has been at the local delivery depot since the 17th. Two chosen delivery dates have passed, and there has been no movement whatsoever. This supposed to arrive with me before Christmas. The webchat doesn't load. Can you help?
