Yes, the healthcare system has indeed failed new mothers. And this isn’t just about the postpartum period, it begins during pregnancy - even preconception.
There’s so much more that goes into it.
As someone who has been shouting from the rooftops for decades about the poor prenatal and postnatal care that women receive, I have some thoughts regarding this trend.
Yes, the system is failing them but that doesn’t mean it makes sense to make a video saying “Same, Lindsay,” essentially supporting a mother who took her children out.
As a midwife who’s seen postpartum mood disorders, including downright scary cases of psychosis, first hand, I completely understand what these women are trying to convey.
But this is not the way. When taken at face value, they’re telling the world that they’re thinking of doing the same to their own children.
The world doesn’t see this as the cry for help they’re intending it to be and we certainly don’t want to condone thoughts of harming children.
On the other hand, how else will we change what’s happening in maternal healthcare if people don’t get loud and make a scene?
So the question is: How do we make enough noise to demand change without sending a message that can be interpreted as condoning harm? Because the way it’s being done is not it.
Posting these videos, standing outside the courthouse donned in pink - the message is getting lost.
We do need to talk about the failures that leave mothers overwhelmed, isolated and desperately looking for answers. Enough is enough.
But this conversation also has to go far beyond recognizing postpartum mental illness. It has to include how we care for women during pregnancy, how we prepare them for birth and motherhood, and what support they actually receive once they’re home.
But we have to do it in a way that keeps the focus on what we’re actually trying to change.
Because right now, we don’t know if we’re looking at a cry for help, a call for change, or a genuine expression of thoughts of harm or support of someone who has done so. And that’s a pretty serious problem.
Moms are posting videos crying with their kids, saying "Same, Lindsay" in support of Lindsay Clancy.
One video currently facing backlash shows a mother holding her baby while an audio clip plays of Clancy’s attorney reading from one of her diary entries about her children.
The creator captioned it, “This could be you . We need to support each other. And fight for a better system,” along with hashtags about postpartum awareness.
It’s true that mothers can experience intrusive thoughts that horrify them.
Women can love their children and still need psychiatric help.
None of those things are controversial statements, and talking about them openly probably saves lives.
Clancy’s case, however, is about a triple homicide involving her three dead children.
You can believe the American healthcare system fails mothers without making a video that essentially says, “I might kill my children too.”

This goes so deep. We’re talking a whole 5 bedroom U Haul to unpack here. This isn’t just about the postpartum period.
We can start with the way women are treated prenatally. The fear that’s instilled surrounding pregnancy and birth, and the gaslighting that makes them doubt their bodies’ ability to grow and give birth to their babies. Because of this, they’re convinced that they need someone else to manage their pregnancy and make decisions for them.
Then we have the practically forced inductions, cesareans, interventions, and the birth trauma so many women experience.
That’s a whole other truck to unpack. A much bigger one.
So now they’ve spent nine months being conditioned to doubt their bodies and their instincts. How do they suddenly trust their intuition as a mother?
Then after they give birth, they’re sent home on a hormone roller coaster, with a brand new human, dealing with sleep deprivation, dramatically changing bodies, unrealistic expectations and sometimes very little support when the partner goes back to work and family returns home. And for those who don’t have family around, the only village many women have is social media, and it’s a cesspool of misinformation and conflicting advice. Truly, I’ve watched the “parenting” videos that new moms are watching. Having the knowledge that I do, I can say with great certainty that most of them are ridiculous.
Then we arrive at postpartum “care.” This usually consists of ONE visit at 6 weeks postpartum. ONE. That means noone is checking on their physical or mental health until 6 weeks after birth. At which point they get a Pap smear and an all clear to exercise and have sex. Cause you know, that’s all they were waiting for.
I mean, I could go on and on.
Are they looking for attention? Yes, they probably are. They’re overwhelmed and desperate for support. And a lot of the overwhelm and expectations they’re drowning from are coming from the same place they’re turning to for answers. Social media.
You know, where the perfect mothers, the endless rules about how to feed, sleep, soothe, play, discipline and do motherhood “right” exist. It’s an impossible standard for them to try to live up to.
I can’t tell you how many times clients have come to me stressed over something they saw online that they thought they were supposed to be doing.
Because they’re not getting the education, advice, support and reinforcement they need from their providers, they look to their online “village” for it, and this is what we end up with.
Funding bias, data suppression, and outcome reporting bias have corrupted modern research for years.
Everyone screaming "but, science" forgets that real science requires absolute transparency, not burying certain data for convenience or profit.
The medical industrial complex loves to use the illusion of "evidence-based medicine" as a shield to shut down questions. Then they’re free to push pills and protocols to increase the bottom line.
"Most published research findings are false."
Say that out loud in a hospital and you'd get laughed out of the room. That's the actual title of a paper by John Ioannidis at Stanford, whom Dr. Aseem Malhotra calls the most cited medical researcher alive.
The greater the financial interest in a field, the less likely its research is to be true.
Doctors treat the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, and The Lancet like biblical truth. They don't realize how much of it is corrupted by vested interests.
Dr. Malhotra spent years treating those journals as gospel. Then he realized what he was actually reading: studies bought and shaped by the people who profit from them.
He isn't saying doctors are bad. He's saying they're being manipulated and don't know it.
We are appealing this back to the Supreme Court.
The Second Circuit ruled this way last year and the Supreme Court vacated it and told them to try again. They decided to again violate the rights of the Amish. So, we will be going back to the Supreme Court.
Also, yes, the Amish children in this case are far healthier than American children who are vaccinated. Our sworn papers make that clear that the families in the three Amish schools at issue in this case have a total of 168 unvaccinated children (no vaccines) and that none of these children have any of the chronic health issues that plague children in the United States.
We also provided sworn expert evidence attesting that among a random sample of 168 U.S. children, one would expect to find (based on the background rate of chronic disease among U.S. children) 31 cases of environmental allergies, 15 cases of ADHD, 10 cases of asthma, 9 cases of food allergies, and 4 cases of ASD. Yet, the 168 unvaccinated Amish children whose families New York wants to persecute are free from the chronic health conditions—all related to some form of immune system dysregulation—that plague the vaccinated communities in New York.
Since vaccination is supposedly about improving health, and the Amish who do not vaccinate are clearly healthier, one would expect New York to leave them alone. But that is not how this religion works. The vaccine zealots in New York cannot stand that the Amish refuse to abandon their beliefs in favor of the religious beliefs held by the New York officials regarding vaccines. These “health” officials are willing to sacrifice the way of life and belief system of these Amish children and their community, that has kept them far healthier, if they refuse to bend the knee to adopt cult-like vaccine beliefs.
These “health” officials also apparently cannot stand that the Amish children are healthier and are even willing to wage war against them until they submit and receive every vaccine New York demands—so they can be just as “healthy” as all the children outside the Amish community.
The Amish earnestly seek to avoid conflict but because violating their sincerely held religious beliefs is not an option, they have been placed in the impossible position of being required to leave New York to simply send their healthy children to Amish schools on Amish land. We, along with co-counsel, intend to continue litigate on behalf of the Amish to defend their freedom to practice their religion in peace.
JUST IN: Florida’s AG announces subpoenas for General Mills and Pillsbury over their use of potassium bromate, a chemical linked to cancer, DNA damage, and even possible hearing loss.
@AGJamesUthmeier: "There's been sufficient evidence of ties to kidney, thyroid, and abdominal cancer. It is a genotoxic, causing oxidative stress. It's been linked to DNA damage and other cellular harms. Again, it's not something that we want to risk when it comes to our kids."
Officials say this is just the start of the investigation.
$50M paid to 200 women for lifelong health issues and possibly lost fertiiity.
After attorney fees, maybe they’ll have enough to hand right back to pharma for their daily meds for a year.
Seems fair, right?
Oh and what about the 500 women who didn’t make it? What do they get?

Merck & Co has agreed to pay $50 million to settle more than 200 lawsuits brought against the drug giant by patients suffering from autoimmune disorders after receiving the Gardasil vaccine.
@unayosimi And if the child developed a disability after birth? Ok to kill it then? Just because a baby is born seemingly perfect at birth, does not mean it will not develop physical or mental health issues later. What then?
RFK Jr. is correct. Hep B vaccines given to infants (Recombivax HB and Engerix B) were not proven safe before licensure and have not been proven safe thereafter. The proof is unassailable.
Recombivax HB was licensed based on a clinical trial with 147 children monitored for 5 days after injection and no control group.* Engerix B had only 4 days of monitoring after injection with no control group.**
Fun fact: trials to license vaccines for chickens require “daily observation records [] for at least 21 days after vaccination.”***
As for post licensure safety, CDC and HRSA commissioned the Institute of Medicine (IOM) to review (what these agencies said were) 25 serious commonly-claimed injuries from Hep B vaccines, and the IOM concluded that for 24 of them, neither CDC nor the medical community had done the studies needed for them to reach a conclusion on whether Hep B vaccines caused these conditions.**** Meaning, at best, the serious harms reported from Hep B vaccines were never taken seriously and properly studied.
Here is another fun fact: Hep B mortality has gone upsince the introduction of the Hep B vaccine. The first Hep B vaccine was introduced in 1981 and was made with human blood plasma from donors who were chronically infected with the Hep B virus. In 1986, a new Hep B vaccine using recombinant DNA technology (without human blood) was licensed. Mortality from Hep B climbed after introduction of the 1981 vaccine, continued to climb after the introduction of the 1986 vaccine, and has never returned to pre-vaccination levels. In 1980, there were 294 deaths in the United States from Hep B. Today, there are around 1,700 deaths per year.*
Here is another inconvenient data point: in the only study comparing children who received Hep B vaccines in the first month of life to those who did not, researchers from Stony Brook University Medical Center found that the vaccinated children had three times the risk of autism. As the study explained: "Result was significant for the risk of autism in children who received their first dose of Hepatitis B vaccine during the first month of life (OR 3.00, 95% CI 1.11, 8.13), compared with those who received the vaccination after the first month of life or not at all."***** Other studies finding statistically significant elevated risk for various neurological and other harms from these products abound.
The hard cold reality is that if Hep B vaccines were safe, they would not need immunity to liability for the injuries they won’t cause. They need this immunity because the reality is, after 40 years of use, they know what would happen if the immunity were lifted…
Below is a short video discussing these points and see Vaccines, Amen for a full discussion, including discussion of my deposition of the principal investigator of the childhood Hep B trial for Recombivax HB, or see: https://t.co/YmwhyJkNJY
