AI companies are buying rare books by the million, cutting the spines off, scanning them through industrial machines, and shredding the originals.

No... not bestsellers...not reprints.

Rare books.

Books with hardly two-three surviving copies in the world.

Books that outlasted wars, fires, and centuries of handling.

A federal judge ruled this is fair use because destroying the original means only one copy exists at a time.

So it is legal and so it will accelerate.

As per 404 Media, the service that facilitates this openly bragged that "AI company destroys two million books" is not a headline that generates sympathy, and built an entire anonymous pipeline anyway.

NDAs are offered as a product feature.

Clients are coached to call it "digital preservation."

AI companies scraping the web, torrenting libraries, and ripping music is not new but this... this is different.

You can re-upload a website. You can reprint a bestseller.

But you cannot replace the last copies of an 18th-century botanical manuscript once they go through the shredder.

These greedy AI gaints are permanently erasing pieces of human knowledge so that AI can write better, human sounding marketing emails.

And they have the audacity to call themselves 'anthropic'.

So... Ubuntu will introduce AI that no one asked for. As bad as that is the reaction is somewhat of a storm in a water glass. Snaps are easy to purge and ultimately, a linux distro is what you can customize it into. This still makes Ubuntu better then windows by miles of code.

Till råga på gårdagens rattsurfande a-traktors "unge" fick man idag köra om en mopedbil med samma sorts rattsurfare.

Det finns något bizart i hur politiker beklagar sig över lågt barnafödande sen låter man "barn" orsaka sina egna undergångar i a-traktorer och mopedbilar.

Än en gång får man se en rattsurfande "unge" rulla förbi i en a-traktor. Resten av världen måste skratta åt Sverige då vansinnet får fortsätta.
