Interviewed in this NPR piece on the current #Ebola outbreak alongside @BhadeliaMD & Dr. Dan Bausch
Our team from Stanford and University of Nairobi (@mosmasika@kimeli_vet ) funded through @StanfordKingCtr has been investigating Ebola and Marburg spillover utilizing multiplex serological assays alongside colleagues at CDC special pathogens & NIH NIAID for the past 2.5 years.
Lots of important variables to watch in this outbreak.

ONE HEALTH approach saving lives and livelihoods in Turkana County:
#Kimormor, is a one-stop-shop healthcare: animals get vaccinated, women receive maternal care, children get immunisation shots, and men get medical check-ups." https://t.co/wPvGdszn8u
🏆Tonight, we celebrate journalism that stayed with the story. Journalism that asked harder questions. Journalism that put people first.
We are incredibly proud of our team at Willow Health Media for the recognition received at the #AMEA2026 Annual Media Excellence Awards by the Media Council of Kenya. 🇰🇪
My interview on @ABC7 regarding the #Hantavirus outbreak on the MV Hondius. This will not be another covid19. But this outbreak does have concerning features, including complications now tracing those who left the ship before the outbreak was detected and traveled back to their respective countries. This is a virus with a long incubation period, nonspecific initial symptoms, and prior outbreaks have had 'superspreaders' largely driven by their contact-patterns (being in crowded settings while contagious).
When water becomes scarce, the burden doesn’t fall evenly. In many communities, it is girls who walk longer distances, spend more hours fetching water and miss out on school or rest.
Across Kenya, water scarcity is already shaping daily life, with limited access forcing families to rely on distant or unreliable sources.
What looks like a resource gap is also a gender issue, affecting education, health and opportunity.

Willow Health Media and MSI Reproductive Choices Kenya @MarieStopesKe have signed an MoU to co-create data-driven communication and storytelling on sexual and reproductive health and rights.
The partnership will see production of evidence-based multimedia content, grounded in data and expert insight, to strengthen public understanding, community dialogue, and informed decision-making on SRHR in Kenya and beyond.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, beloved wife of Karumba Ngatia @DJKrowbar , whose influence stayed with us long after our conversations ended.
When we interviewed DJ Krowbar on the transition from NHIF to the Social Health Authority(SHA), Joyce’s experience and insistence on dignity in care reflected the reality of many Kenyan families navigating the uncertainty of illness. Through DJ Krowbar’s voice, she reminded us that health policy is never abstract; it is personal and often costly.
The Board, Management and Staff of Willow Health Media extend heartfelt condolences to DJ Krowbar, their children, and the entire Karumba family. May Joyce’s memory bring comfort, and may her family find strength in the love that surrounds them during this difficult time.
SHA was meant to close Kenya’s healthcare gaps—but is it delivering?
