@MWardBehaviour Tweets like fuel rifts between parents and schools. Blame culture doesn’t promote anything positive and especially not for the child! Looking for the gaps and ensuring a better system for children, families and schools has to be the focus. From a mum whose sen child EOTAS at home
@ElizStanley_ Budgets would go further if education care and health worked together...so much money and time lost playing budget and responsibility ping pong between them all. Holistic early intervention and mapping needs to be looked at
@PhoenixEdSarah Are they happy at school? Ask open questions and explore gently? Are they included? What could be made better. And please don’t forget the complex children/young adults - event those who struggle with communication should have a voice
@ElizStanley_@CommonsEd@CommonsHealth Wouldn’t even class that as support. That’s parent Carers taking their precious time to help government shape the service for the next generation.
One in five children start school with speech and language difficulties, but the help a child receives can depend on where they live.
Two mums, whos sons have language difficutlies and language therapist Kamini Gadhok speak to #5News on how therapy can be a postcode lottery
@PegisStoke Makes me boil when I read his reports that they can’t gain his views because of his communication difficulties. They never even attempt to engage or communicate. Pathways in stoke and staffs need seriously addressing!
#LearningDisability#eotas LD team “able to provide support should X return to a school however are unable to provide support at present with X out of school” X has been at home for 18 months and educated under EOTAS no plans to be able to return him to school. Ping pong again!
@PegisStoke Staffordshire CCG - H is stuck in a budget and service boundary ping pong war between clinical psychology and the LD Team. Instead on seeing a very vulnerable 9 year old with significant details they are fighting behind the scenes over £££!
#LearningDisabilities#asd#dyspraxia CIN meeting notes from LD Nurse “it is unclear who would be responsible for completing any cognitive assessment”....”they feel direct work is not appropriate with X due to his communication difficulties and the fact X does not want change”!
Family is punished for trying to make the system work for their child.
Family stop engaging.
"Well they shouldn't expect anything done for them if they're not going to engage."
This happens, frequently.
@PhoenixEdSarah We were going to be a test of the reforms but we have ping ponged between education health and care since Feb 16 when his statement to EHCP started. We hit every service boundary going and 2 schools later and home full time still no joint working along with no one willing to lead
@normanlamb@IreneByrneWatts#Oliverscampaign we need every medic to have a good understanding of intellectual disability It’s a National disgrace that so many people who have LD are dying due to doctors ignorance Training & changing culture is what is needed but it must be effective
@C4Dispatches @All4 I’d like to see a piece on the other end of the scale - where children are at home because failed by the system and the LAs responsibility. The ones with special needs with EHCPs where schools can’t meet needs and schools off roll. The ones the LAs want to forget about
