@MountsfieldPC Steven and Mary congratulations on the cafe's 3 year anniversary. It has become so popular and has made such a positive impact on the park.
@running_past @LouiseKrupski@JamesJWalsh@John_Muldoon This is is one of the Section 106 funded foxproof bins at Mountsfield Park. They are too small and the foxes can easily reach up and pull the rubbish from them. The rubbish does not get cleared until the following day. We need larger bins that are out of reach for the foxes.
You’ll be seeing some signs around #Lewisham soon on uncut areas explaining what we are doing. Every small patch of land left undisturbed at this time of year makes huge difference to insect & bird populations. Pls post your own wild areas to encourage others to get involved.
@BottonsFun @janbrulc @JamesJWalsh Fair rides or vehicles at least 1m from the stem is not sufficient protection, even with ground protection in parks. @WoodlandTrust suggest 'a root protection area is usually a calculated area of ground that lies immediately under a tree and just beyond the extent of its crown'.
@BottonsFun @janbrulc @JamesJWalsh Long term damage to the trees would be due to soil compaction when encroaching their root protection areas as you have done here. This oak tree has been pruned because it is in decline, probably due to soil compaction. Without realising it, you are making the problem worse.
To #southlondon & #lewisham for another #park sign up! 📢

EXTREMELY URGENT: All hands to the watering can! 💦#streettrees need more watering than usual in #drought, the lives of young trees are esp. at risk! 🌳😨 Any dry tree, 20 litres, 2/3 times a week, regardless of rain. It's almost impossible to give too much. Please start now! 🙏

@STfLLondon@katrinajramsey@TheStreetTree@DaveGoulson Would it be better to install chestnut tree stakes rather than rounded conifer stakes that contain chemical biocides? The chestnut tree stakes last much longer than rounded posts and do not leach biocides into the soil.
