My girlfriend and I spent the entire night together at a hotel.
The following morning, her phone rang.
Girlfriend: “Yes, Mum. I slept at home.”
I stared at her.
She ended the call and immediately lowered her voice.
Girlfriend: “If anyone asks, you never saw me last night.”
Me: “Why would your mother be asking?”
She unlocked her phone and showed me a family WhatsApp message.
Her father had announced that someone was coming to ask for her hand in marriage that afternoon.
I looked at her.
Me: “Wait. You’re getting married?”
She shook her head.
Girlfriend: “Not to the man you think.”
Me: “What does that even mean? Who is coming to marry you?”
She sat on the edge of the bed.
Girlfriend: “My parents have already chosen someone. They don’t know I’m seeing you.”
Me: “Then why did you spend the night with me if you knew this was happening?”
She looked straight into my eyes.
Girlfriend: “Because I needed to tell you something before he arrives.”
My wife’s younger sister has been living with us for two months, and lately, I’m beginning to feel uncomfortable in my own home.
The strange thing is that she was only supposed to stay for two weeks.
I work night shifts at a hotel in downtown Chicago, while my wife works daytime shifts at a medical clinic. Our schedules mean we’re rarely home together during the week.
When her younger sister, 28, came to visit, neither of us had a problem with it. She’s family, and we had a spare bedroom, so we agreed she could stay until she sorted out a few personal things.
But two weeks became a month. A month became two, and somehow, nobody has discussed when she’s leaving.
Initially, I didn’t mind. She’s polite, helps around the house occasionally, and gets along well with my wife.
However, I’ve started noticing some strange behaviour.
Because I work nights, I usually get home around 7 a.m. My wife is already getting ready for work by then, and her sister is often still awake or just getting out of bed.
Sometimes, when I walk into the kitchen, she’ll be standing there in one of my oversized T-shirts, even though she has plenty of clothes of her own. When I ask how her night went, she’ll smile and say she couldn’t sleep.
Last week, I came downstairs to get some water and found her sitting on the sofa. She immediately locked her phone and asked whether I was going back to bed.
I thought nothing of it until she started doing something else.
Whenever my wife leaves for work, her sister suddenly becomes unusually talkative. She’ll ask about my shift, what I plan to eat, whether I’m going out later, and sometimes she’ll even offer to make breakfast for me.
Oberyn was winning. He was faster, more skilled, and had already weakened his opponent. But he couldn't resist talking, demanding a confession until the Mountain turned the tables.
One day, my teacher gave us a fun homework assignment. She asked us to write a short story. I had never written one before, but I was excited to try. I wrote about a brave cat who saved a lost puppy. It took me a long time, but I enjoyed using my imagination. The next day, my teacher read my story aloud to the class. Everyone clapped, and I felt so proud. My teacher said I had a great talent for writing. From that moment, I wanted to write more stories. That was the day I discovered my love for writing.
Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern deserved better. Now that DC is giving Hal Jordan and John Stewart another shot, hopefully people finally see how much potential this franchise has.
One of those movies u need to see at least once in a lifetime. A true story and so unbelievable they actually dumbed down his achievements in the movie because people would’ve assumed it was fake
I went to visit a friend yesterday, and something happened that I still can't explain.
We were sitting in his room when his phone started ringing. He looked at the screen, sighed, and declined the call.
A few seconds later, it rang again.
Me: Aren't you going to answer that?
