Mexico vs South Africa
I will look away from all the noise and lots of tactical analysis made for the opener, there is for me something much more important than those analysis.
Mexico is playing their 8th
World Cup opener !!!
No Team has ever played opening games at the
World Cup like Mexico,
they are repeatedly involved in opening games in the World Cup history. Interesting !
All the experience Mexico has gained in World Cup history, something very interesting comes out,
Mexico has never won a World Cup opening match!!!
Openings are completely different from the group stage fixtures and the knock out stages later on.
I have been in football long enough to know that opening matches are very rare decided by tactics and concepts alone.
Most itβs decided who can handles the emotional pressure of the occasion.
Mexicos players will be very emotional and obviously driven with the energy of the occasion, the atmosphere and the expectation to win at home a World Cup opener is enormous pressure.
These is huge burden and such emotional momentum can obviously be very powerful in the game, but players can also be extremely vulnerable if it doesnβt go their way.
From Bafanaβs perspective,
I donβt think the first objective should be to play the game in the opening moments, first is to survive the emotional waves, and if the score remains level, the pressure will not stay with Bafana.
It will be on the shoulders of Mexico.
Thatβs when game will become much more psychological as tactical concepts.
Bafana donβt need to prove that they are better than Mexico in the first 20 minutes.
If the boys can remain calm enough, to play their offensive transition game after the emotion settles, that could give Mexico problems in their defensive transition.
The impatience will changes their decisions and attacking will be rushed.
That is why Bafanaβs biggest challenge is definitely not Mexicoβs quality in the beginning.
Bafana Bafanaβs opportunity is Mexicoβs urgency!

Mbekezeli Mbokazi Makes History as First South African MLS All-Star Starter Since Doctor Khumalo
South African defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi has been named in the starting XI for the 2026 MLS All-Star Game, becoming the first South African player to earn the honour since football legend Doctor Khumalo featured in the exhibition match in 1996.
The 20-year-old Chicago Fire centre-back received more fan votes than any other player, securing his place in the league's showpiece event, which will be played at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on 29 July.
Mbokazi's selection caps a remarkable rise for the Hluhluwe-born defender, who joined Chicago Fire from Orlando Pirates in December 2025. Since arriving in Major League Soccer, he has established himself as one of the league's standout young defenders, earning widespread praise for his commanding aerial presence, defensive consistency, and maturity beyond his years.
The Bafana Bafana international will line up alongside some of world football's biggest names, including Lionel Messi, Son Heung-min, and Chicago Fire teammate Hugo Cuypers, when the MLS All-Stars take on the Liga MX All-Stars.
His inclusion marks a significant milestone for South African football and highlights the growing influence of local talent on the global stage.
Sibonga kakhulu Sis Phumla. The Commission has set an example of how you go about mentoring young people in a professional environment, appreciating their skills, allowing them space to demonstrate what they are capable of, and elevating their performance by believing in them and learning from observing from your experience. The Commission is an institution we'll draw lessons from way into the future.
One thing that is heartwarming and makes me proud is seeing Advocate Lee Seagulls-Ncube's growing confidence in leading evidence. π Her being assisted and flanked by Senior Advocate Sello and not being intimidated, but so smooth in how she carries herself, just makes me smile. The empowerment done by the Commission for young women and young Lawyers is praiseworthy. ππ½β€οΈ

One of the best things about the title race for me was Coach Wadu completely ignoring Coach Cardosoβs press conferences and post match comments. He literally refused to get drawn into the mind games and just focused on his team
