You want to instantly be tougher? Learn to keep your mouth closed while being coached. Be able to take correction without needing to talk back, give excuses or change your body language. You must work at it. This is a mental toughness skill & it takes deliberate daily practice!
The Stilwell Indians with a big win over the 7th ranked Fort Gibson Tigers 56-63. They move on to the championship game Saturday against Victory Christian!!
Great teams pass on toxic talent.
Talent that, under stress, become coach killers, program killers, culture killers.
Part of building a great culture is protecting that culture by who you let in. Talent matters but character is the difference maker.
Wow! Tom Brady may have just delivered the greatest quote I’ve ever heard.
“To be successful at anything, the truth is you don’t have to be special. You just have to be what most people aren’t: consistent, determined and willing to work for it.”
Coaches: If you want credibility & the ultimate respect from your players, they better believe that you are able to make them better. When they look you in the eye, they need to see that you are in it for them. Every player who is serious & wants to be great, wants to be coached!
Assistant coaches should never leave the office without asking (even if you already know the answer) the Head Coach “Is there anything else I can do for you?” #AssistantCoachTip
“A great coach is not determined by the level of athlete he or she works with, but rather by what the coach can do with the level of that athlete.” (Allistair McCaw)
Pat Summitt said, "You win in life with people. It's not about me, I've never scored a basket for the University of Tennessee."
You can't get there alone.
Surround yourself with the right people.
• It takes teamwork.
• It takes support.
• It takes collaboration.
It’s not only about the wins, rings or the championships. It’s about the relationships, the people & the lifelong friendships, shared experiences & bonds that never break. Yes, the game makes these things possible, but the game will forever be secondary to relationships you make!
On our way to Texas last week, went through Terral OK and I had to stop and look at the gym. Why? (funny, my wife and kids asked the same question!)
On January 9, 1979, that is where GRANDFIELD #OKPreps Kenneth Johnson scored the state record 105 points. They say it was a smaller gym, I couldn't get in the building but it definitely was! The plan that day was to break the state single game scoring record, set earlier in the season by RYAN's Jay Armstrong. Johnson had 31 by the end of the 1st (71 at half) and left the game with 5:23 left in the 4th with 105 points. 105 still stands today!
PARENTS: If you only cheer for your child during an athletic event, don't be surprised if others do the same and before you know it there is an atmosphere of selfishness and entitlement surrounding with your child's team.
Administrators demanding that their teachers teach “bell-to-bell” are out of touch with reality. This mandate disregards humanity, creates unrealistic expectations, leads to burnout, and does not yield positive results for children.
