This remind me of the show All American. The main character is part of a black community and the white Beverly Hills. The differences are strongly shown between these cities even though they are only miles apart.

@annabel_smoot Like Ryan said, a lot of the problem is with advertising and approach. A recent lecture for my world politics class discussed that when talking about climate change, it doesn’t help to give more facts but it is actually more beneficial to relate it to the person’s passions.

This again reminded me of Rising Out of Hatred. The white supremacists Derek Black associated himself with believed in reconstructing society and government to reverse immigration.

Regardless of race in Dayton, people tended to use drugs because of living situations and jobs. It did not have to do with their race like surveys suggest. The author makes a point to clarify the black race is not more inclined to drug crimes but are more likely to be convicted.

To enforce this point about the television world and media, I think the author could also incorporate the discussions and news coverage differences between black and white criminals.

@Angelin27821042 I agree, the point that people only turn few examples of black successes like Obama and Oprah is important. It shows their success is thought of as rare instead of normal and common.

In the documentary, whites were uncomfortable with new black neighbors which caused divides in communities between black and white. Similarly, the regulations imposed on truckers were causing them to turn to familiarities and cause race divides.

Balay explains why trucking appeals to the “underdogs” of society and how the regulations placed by the government only makes truckers more determined and accomplished.
