For PE teachers +those who get anxious thinking about it - “The kids who stand to benefit the most from participating in phys-ed are the very ones we’re disenfranchising,” - Marc Tremblay, director of Healthy Active Living and Obesity Research at CHEO

Being an administrator has shown me that you can’t force people (staff, kids, families alike) into much but that you can love them into almost anything. When we understand the needs of others & do our best to meet those needs we’ll see the best of them every time. #LoveWorks
@HPE_Teacher I’m big fan of capture the flag here. I use a standard game “map” 45m long w 3m zones at end and set it up in a variety of spots all over the school’s property (ie, grass, paved space, centered on structures/hills/portables, uneven ground, pre-ice rink).
After a long weekend is a great time to change something in classrooms. It's important that the student's walk into something "new".Perhaps a new seating plan. Just enough to grab their attention and let them know it's time for learning again.

This is the same for students in the classroom. Without establishing trust, there’s no foundation for a relationship. Without the relationship all interactions remain superficial and fleeting. Ask @CoachBulley how he does it. @BondarBlazers@OCDSB
When former youth players reflect on their best coaches, they usually recall the non-technical stuff. Coaches that built relationships, cared, treated players with respect; that built self-esteem and understood winning and losing mattered, yes- but mostly as part of the journey.

<start w Number talk or discuss an essential question>>
The Lumosity app is great, but if I wasn’t already subscribing to it at the time I started in the spring, I would’ve found a free app alternative.
@responsivePE@SchleiderJustin @HPE_Teacher @MP_Explorers@foes4sports @PhysEdDepot @opheacanada@GoNoodle - entry
- turn off lights
- “you have 5 mins to fall asleep. If you do:great. If you don’t:great. But I ask that you respect that this is a skill that takes focus so please respect the silence.
<<3-5mins elapses>>
After the 1st 4-5 times:
- 2min class reflection discussion
@MP_Explorers That doesn’t surprise me that you’d have seen/used it before! ‘The cream always rises to the top ‘👍🏾I’m using splat with fractions to support/drive my number talks. The “Which one doesn’t belong” style of visual is another I’d recommend (https://t.co/2IJdeg5fVX).
@MP_Explorers thanks for thinking to connect me to that article! I hope you’re doing well. I just found this visual math resource that I thought was kind of cool for my grade8s but is probably better for Ss in your class. Take a look at SPLAT math if you haven’t seen it before
@humanvers2, @stablekneez I’m at a Roberta Bondar just down the street. Spent some time w you guys and @bobthomasOCSB this last spring. How many students can you accommodate at any given time? I’m tabling a proposal to parent council to fund some quality HPE experiences.
