. @mkituuma "The Uganda Police Force has registered and commenced investigations into a shooting incident that occurred on 29 August 2026 at at around 7:30 a.m. at Ndejje Kanaaba, within Katwe Police Division.

Preliminary information indicates that police officers from Ndejje Police Station had been deployed to provide security during the National Cleaning Day community exercise in the area.

It is alleged that a boda boda rider attempted to force his way through a secured area while riding his motorcycle. In circumstances that are now under investigation, the rider was allegedly shot by Police Constable Allan Okello a police officer attached to Ndejje Police Station.

The officer has been arrested, and investigations are underway to establish the circumstances under which he discharged his firearm, resulting in the death of the rider.

The silent killer on supermarket shelves

Walk into almost any supermarket or neighbourhood shop across Uganda, and the shelves present an overwhelming array of colourful packages: sweetened sodas, crisps, instant noodles, and processed snacks.

For millions of busy consumers, these items offer convenience. But hidden inside their attractive packaging are dangerous levels of added sugars, refined salts, and unhealthy fats, the silent triggers driving a modern health crisis across the country.

Public health advocates are now urging the government to fast-track strict regulations that would force food manufacturers to place clear, bold warning labels on the front of unhealthy packaged foods.

“The excessive sugars, salts, and unhealthy fats are dietary risk factors for obesity, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and some cancers, killing many Ugandans,” says Henry Kimera, chief executive officer of Consent, a global consumer rights organization.

The development of government funding for the UPL clubs did not start with the reported Shs5.5bn.

Now government has directed NCS to disburse funds to all 18 clubs, requiring their individual bank details and accountability.

Uganda’s first Uganda Connect Hub in Serbia, opened by H.E. @KagutaMuseveni, was conceived as more than a promotional space. It was a practical way of putting Uganda in the market, visible to buyers, investors, tourists and partners.

Today, Serbia has four Uganda Connect Hubs, and the country has increasingly become a gateway for Uganda into the wider Balkan region.

These hubs serve as market and information platforms: showcasing Ugandan products, connecting businesses with potential buyers, promoting investment opportunities, and telling the wider story of Uganda, including our magnificent tourism destinations.

The impact is increasingly visible in trade. In May last year, Uganda shipped its first consignment of locally roasted coffee to Serbia. The market has also received Ugandan shea butter, fruits and vegetables, vanilla, leather and crafts, Uganda Waragi, among other products.

This is the thinking behind Uganda Connect: presence creates visibility, visibility creates connections, and connections can create trade.

Uganda must continue putting its products and its story directly in front of the world.

I took the initiative to bring this prosthetic limb programme to Tororo, bringing together beneficiaries from different parts of the region.

13 of approximately 40 beneficiaries have already received their limbs, with the balance expected by next week. They have also undergone training and are now able to walk with their new limbs.

Seeing the smiles and the impact this is having on their lives is incredibly rewarding. I thank Suman Foundation for partnering with me to make this possible and help restore mobility, independence and dignity to our people.

King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, the King of Uganda’s Tooro Kingdom, has died at the age of 34. He became king in 1995 at just three years old and was recognised as the world’s youngest reigning monarch. As an adult, he focused on youth development, education, health and environmental conservation.
