I enjoyed all the readings this semester. If I had to pick it would be: the poem "Iron", the novel "Kindred", and the play " Vietgone" I love the boldness of the authors. They were true to their culture. #HongLit
I remember sharing this belief as well when I was younger. Beauty today has evolved in fashion, modeling and representation of celebrity figures. Beauty comes in many wonderful shades. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." #HongLit
In “I Was Their American Dream” I found it interesting what Malaka’s mom said about the new dress she bought. She said she bought the dress because she saw a white woman wear it. She was taught white people were the embodiment of beauty. #HongLit
"I Was Their American Dream" is so colorful and relatable to others who have parents from another country and others who may have grown up with parents that were divorced. Her family is not ideal just real and she seems very proud of her family.#honglit
A song I love listening to is "Sparrow" by Cory Asbury. This song helps to strengthen my faith in God whenever I feel down. It lifts me up every time.#honglit

"Out on Main Street"was interesting to read. I was able to understand the dialect because I have friends from Trinidad. The narrator is speaking her truth about acceptance. I feel she is looking for acceptance in her appearance and from a cultural perspective. #honglit
@Mercy83974446 Yes, I agree. When I read this it helped me to understand that even though lives were lost there were some that were saved as well. Great perspective!
I just finished Vietgone!! It was a great read. I was rooting for Quang and Tong💑 Even though Quang was married. I loved them together. I also loved the father's outlook on the war at the end. It really put things in perspective. Now I really need to see the play😭#honglit
Vietgone is hilarious! Bobby talking to Tong in broken English had me cracking up. Bobby: "Tong needing anything in camp, ask Bobby. Bobby is Tong Friend. Number one friend." It was funny to see the judgmental tables turned. #honglit
One thing I'm going to do over spring break to find some joy and/or take care of myself...after resting😊is schedule myself for the remainder of the semester because its been feeling a little intense and then I'll make plans for next semester. #planningahead#honglit
I feel Cathy Park Hong's writing is a voice to many people that have English as their second language. She speaks about being a child talking authoritatively for her mom in conversation. In Hong's response she displays intelligence in the face of disrespect. #badenglish#honglit
James Baldwin, "Notes of a Native Son" show the complexity of his relationship with his stepfather. His father was bitter and judgmental. I thought it was interesting when he spoke about fights with his father. Baldwin states his method was silence. #honglit
Zora Neale-Hurston, How It Feels To Be Colored, is an excellent read. I love the interpretation of her emotions during the music and the response that her friend gave about the music. The way music is felt can be a culture difference. His response felt like an insult. #honglit
