'Nobody Wants This' onscreen rabbi Adam Brody recently weighed in on the Israel-Gaza war, and now a real rabbi who consulted on the series is responding to what he calls “ignorant” comments by the actor.
“You by your own admission are a relatively ignorant Jew, and your ignorance really showed the other day,” said Rabbi Steve Leder..."

At 6:29 a.m. on October 7, 2023, Hamas launched a murderous attack on Israeli civilians - men, women, and children. It was the deadliest act of terrorism and antisemitic violence against the Jewish people since the Holocaust. Among those murdered, burned, raped, and slaughtered were Israelis and Americans; Jews, Christians, and Muslims.
No one can rewrite history and turn the aggressor into the victim. Nothing can obscure the atrocities committed by this abhorrent terrorist organization against civilians in their homes, in their own country.
The people of Israel will stand united against any attempt to do so.
In the face of terrorism and the darkest forces of hatred - which New York City knows all too well from the horrors of September 11 - truth must always prevail.
The remarks by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani are a reckless distortion of the truth. They are pure antisemitism, with no basis in fact. They are dangerous, inflammatory, and have no place anywhere - certainly not in 2026.
At a time when populism is on the rise and some leaders count on the public having a short memory, we will not allow anyone to question the right of the people of Israel to live in security in their own country. Nor will we accept any attempt to equate despicable terrorist organizations with the Israel Defense Forces - our safeguard. The IDF operates according to clear values and in accordance with international law, with a deep conviction in the justice of its cause.

The original NY Times headline reads: “Violence Tied to Soccer Game….” There is no mention of the unprecedented nature of the event—a pogrom in the 21st century. No mention of its motive: antisemitism. No mention of its victims: Jews and Israelis. No mention of the response it necessitated: an emergency rescue operation by the Israeli government.
The hollowness of the headline tells its own story about a deeper desensitization of the modern world to Jew hatred even when the hate metastasizes into violence.

On Yom Kippur, we are tasked with looking at problems—with being honest about what's broken or wrong. But we are given ONE DAY to wallow, after which we must mark our liberation from the burden of these flaws and return to life, bringing to it not just an acceptance of what's broken but the joy and resolve to fix it.
For many people, this was a year in which they came face to face with how much was broken about the world around us. It is important to look at this plainly, especially if you've been avoiding or denying truths that others warned about, and it is fair to want time to mourn what was lost or to feel nostalgic for what doesn't exist anymore.
But don't linger there. Accepting brokenness is not a license to wallow in despair or outrage, which are the privileges of people who are able to, or want to, avoid the work of life. And those looking to sell you these poisons, who make their own names or careers on getting Jews to feel afraid and alone and terrified, are doing the work of our enemies.
Life is a primary value in Jewish faith and practice. Our tradition is filled with mourning, and also LIMITS on mourning. You don't get extra credit for fasting additional hours on Yom Kippur or sitting shiva for an eighth day; in fact, it's a violation of the law. Our job is to live, and build life.
