Sickle Cell Awareness Day is also on Juneteenth.
It’s important to recognize this especially since 90% of people with sickle cell are black.
There is a gene therapy treatment that basically cures sickle cell disease & is 90% effective, but it costs $2-3 million
Thanks to a partnership with @WashInformer, several of our @WABJDC UJW high school students are seeing their bylines in a newspaper for the very first time.

A group of teachers at Noyes Elementary in DC are rallying for DCPS to do something about the amount of raccoons in their school. They’re demanding for a deep cleaning but that could be a challenge as Noyes begins summer school just days after the academic year ends.
As a 3rd-gen Washingtonian, I’m supporting Janeese Lewis George (@janeese4dc) for Mayor of DC. Early voting starts June 8; Election Day is June 16. If you have a mail in ballot, return it at a drop box and rank Janeese #1. #JLG4DC#DCNatives4JLG
Janeese Lewis George has earned endorsements from every major union, five sitting Councilmembers, and three elected SBOE members. Despite having less time on the Council than others in the race, she has built the broadest coalition of support. They trust her to lead this city.
This is Donna Cooper. Previously Pepco’s top lobbyist. She got him to kill an energy affordability measure in 2018. It costs DC families $300-$500 a year.
Hundreds of millions for Pepco. A few mins waving a sign. Good deal for Pepco, bad deal for DC.

DC's Office of the People's Counsel is alerting residents that another Pepco rate increase is scheduled to go into effect June 1 -- and calls out the Public Service Commission for not going back to prior rates, after the DC Court of Appeals vacated the latest rate hike in March.
People say that if progressives get elected, the ultra-wealthy will leave and take jobs with them. But if we keep making our city unaffordable and continue pricing out working-class families, what happens when they’re the ones forced to leave? Who keeps the city running then?
A Black neighborhood once stood where the Pentagon sits today. It was called Queen City.
Families lived there for years before the government seized the land and cleared the community to build the Pentagon. This is the story of what happened?‼️🤔
